College of Charleston Alumni Welcome to Facebook headquarters for the College of Charleston's more than 107,000 alumni!

Founded June 13, 1888, the College of Charleston Alumni Association is an independent nonprofit association representing a global network of nearly 100,000 former students of the College. Its mission is to serve the College and it does so through exciting events, a growing scholarship endowment, and programs and services to engage alumni and students. Annual dues were eliminated in 2007 and all former students who earned credit toward a degree at the College are considered members in good standing of the Alumni Association. The Alumni Association is committed to fostering a strong, welcoming, and inclusive alumni community. With more than 40 CofC Clubs and Alumni Affinity Groups dedicated to connecting alumni who share interests, experiences, and pride in the College, there is a home for every College of Charleston Cougar, no matter where we may roam. Joe Nicholson ’87 is the founder of Nicholson Wealth Management Group, located in downtown Charleston. He established the firm in 2017 after more than two decades of working with his mentor, Bernie Puckhaber '50, a nearly 50-year veteran of wealth management and a Hall of Famer at the College of Charleston Athletics. Mr. Puckhaber instilled in Mr. Nicholson the values of honesty, humility, service, and stewardship, which continue to shape the firm’s culture today. Mr. Puckhaber’s influence also deepened Mr. Nicholson's connections to the College. He served on the boards of both the Alumni Association and the Charleston Athletic Fund, carrying on the legacy that Mr. Puckhaber established through decades of service. This includes his roles on the Foundation Board, the Board of Trustees, and as president of the Alumni Association. "Bernie had a lifelong love of Charleston and its community," says Mr. Nicholson.

Liz Stiff '06 recently won an Emmy for her role as Executive Producer of Champions of the Golden Valley. This documentary follows Alishah, a ski coach in Afghanistan who flees the Taliban and becomes a refugee in Germany. The film premiered at Tribeca before its Emmy win, but Ms. Stiff found much inspiration from a senior seminar at the College, "Think Global, Act Local," taught by Hollis France. While at the College, she earned a BA in political science and communications and credits the College for helping her develop a passion for human rights. She says, "My years at the College in the early 2000s were really where my interest in human rights, civil rights, international affairs, and storytelling took root. I studied political science and communications, and looking back now, there's a pretty direct line from those classrooms to the work I've spent the last two decades doing."

What began as an idea from Lance Hagaman '05 has grown into a Pi Kappa Alpha tradition now more than 20 years strong: the annual "Trip to Nowhere." Planned entirely in secret, the destination isn't revealed to attendees until just one week before departure, with each trip centered around outdoor activities like hiking, biking, and rafting. The tradition began in 2006 with a trip to Roanoke, VA, and this year marked the 21st trip, bringing 12 CofC alumni to Driggs, ID, where the group visited the Grand Tetons, went whitewater rafting, and biked. More than two decades later, the tradition continues to foster the special connections first made at the College.
