Day 11: Connelly Grant

Meet Connelly Grant! Connelly is from Chattanooga, Tennessee. She is majoring in Business Administration with an Entrepreneurship Concentration. Connelly is interested in Hospital Administration post grad!

Connelly joined Schotties to be surrounded with hardworking people with diverse ways of thinking. Additionally, wanted to be connected to a lifelong network of dedicated professionals in various fields.
Her favorite part of Schotties is the relationships that it builds. Through this program she has built relationships with my fellow scholars, with executives at CofC, and with extremely accomplished individuals across the globe. This program provides opportunities to connect that are hard to find anywhere else.

Connelly is an extremely bubbly, friendly, and kind soul who we are so proud to have as a Schottland Scholar this year! Fun fact, she is a student athlete and is a part of the equestrian team at CofC! 🐎

Day 10: Nick Matthews

Meet Nick Matthews! Nick is from Lake City, SC. He is majoring in Hospitality and Tourism Management with a minor in Marketing.

Nick’s career field of interest is events management. He joined Schotties to to be surrounded by people who he could learn from and also use to push each other. He also wanted to be a part of a group that values a collaborative culture and works to get the best out of each other’s individual strengths and weaknesses. “It’s nice to be around really smart people and see their insecurities,” he says is his favorite part of Schotties, “We all have them and it’s certainly inspiring learn how others see the world and to appreciate a different perspective.” Nick loves to write songs on the guitar and piano, and also just picked up drawing again!

Nick is creative, energetic, and thinks outside the box. He is a friend to everyone he meets and our Schotties class would be incomplete without him!

Day 9: Cameron Akers

Meet Cameron Akers! Cam is from Asheville, NC. He is double majoring in International Business and Spanish.

Cam’s career field of interest is Wealth Management. He joined Schotties to to be a part of a distinguished group of students that are driven to forge a successful career in business. He also wanted to be a part of a group that values a collaborative culture and works to get the best out of each other’s individual strengths and weaknesses. “The network of alumni and business leaders that we visit frequently,” are one of his favorite parts of being a Schottie. “I love hearing different stories about paths to success as it motivates me to work for the best career possible. I also love how everyone in the group is different in their own ways and extremely driven in their desired field of business.” Cam enjoys saltwater and freshwater fly fishing, playing golf, pickleball, running, live music and spending time with friends and family.

Cam is positive, outgoing, and so much fun to be around! His laugh is contagious and we know he is has an incredible future and career ahead of him!

Day 8: Michael McIntyre

Meet Michael McIntyre! Michael is from Atlanta, GA. He is majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance.

Michael’s career field of interest is Corporate finance, Management Consulting, and Data Analytics. He joined Schotties to in order to establish deeper roots with the College, grow his network, and further develop his professional skill sets. “My fellow scholars whom I have become good friends with,” is his favorite part of being a Schottie. “I very much look forward to being apart of the ever expanding alumni network and to help future scholars in their professional pursuits in whatever way possible.” You can usually find Michael walking on the beach of Sullivans Island in the morning fly fishing in the surf. He loves to camp and explore new places, and is currently interning at a local outdoor company called FreeFly Apparel in the capacity of a financial and data analyst.

Michael is intelligent and a deep thinker. He’s hilarious, a wonderful friend, and a mentor to us all. We can’t wait to see the incredible things he’s going to do!

Day 6: Destiny Humphrey

Meet Destiny Humphrey! Destiny is from Anderson, SC. She is a double major in Marketing and Arts Management and is also pursuing an Entrepreneurship minor.

Destiny’s career field of interest is the arts & culture sector. She is specifically interested in performing arts, doing either marketing or advancement. She joined Schotties to surround herself with like-minded, motivated individuals, and also wanted to network and expand her connections. She wanted to find a mentor that can guide her through her last year of college and as she transitions into the workforce. “Learning from all the different executives,” is her favorite part of being a Schottie, “Even in industries that I am not familiar with, I still manage to learn so much and gain valuable insight about being a leader, working in the business world, and becoming a well-rounded individual.” Destiny loves to dance and have game nights with friends!

Destiny is wise beyond her years and a true friend to everyone she meets. To know her is to love her and you can rely on her for anything! We can’t wait to see the amazing things she does!

Day 6: Axel Stordahl

Meet Axel Stordahl! Axel is from Gig Harbor, WA. He is a double major in Finance & Commercial Real Estate Finance, with a minor in Business Administration.

Axel’s career field of interest is real estate and finance. He joined Schotties because he wanted to find a team of individuals who are driven and motivated to be at the top of their prospective industries. He also loved the opportunity that the program presented to meet with CEO’s and other C suite executives to learn as much as possible about their leadership and communication techniques. “How different each and every one of us in the program are,” is his favorite part of being a Schottie, “And how we have come together as a family to support each other’s goals and aspirations.” Axel is the captain of the CofC varsity sailing team! He loves to run and completed his first ultra marathon over winter break.

Axel is extremely humble, hardworking, and dedicated. He is a natural leader and gives 110% to everything he does; we cannot imagine Schotties without him!

Day 5: Lexi Keberlein

Meet Lexi Keberlein! Lexi is from Kenosha, WI. She is a Business Administration major.

Lexi wants to work for herself and be an entrepreneur; she already has two businesses ( and )! She joined Schotties to make connections and learn from past, current, and future leaders in the business world. “Surrounding myself with people with like goals and values,” is her favorite part of being a Schottie! Lexi enjoys anything health and wellness related and spending time with her family, friends, and two dogs! She also has a passion for small businesses! She took her love for exploring charleston and started an instagram page, , to support and promote local small businesses.

Lexi is passionate and a go-getter! She is one of the kindest souls and we love being around her infectious energy!

Day 4: Sidney Shanahan

Meet Sidney Shanahan! Sidney comes to us from Shelton, CT. She is a double major in Business Administration and Dance. She is concentrating in Performance and Choreography and also pursuing a minor in Spanish.

Sidney’s career field of interest is management of dance. She joined Schotties to gain experience in the business world and make meaningful connections for her career. “Being in an encouraging, professional atmosphere with constant learning opportunities,” is her favorite part of being in Schotties! Sidney enjoys baking and going to the beach, and was also on Netflix productions of Stranger Things and Outer Banks!

Sidney is tough, honest, giving, and the an incredible listener. She gives the best advice and we can’t wait to see the amazing things she’s going to do!

Day 3: Nate Brej

Meet Nate Brej! Nate is from Cleveland, OH. He is a double major in Business Administration and Economics.

Nate’s career field of interest is financial analysis/risk management. He joined Schotties because his friends who were previous scholars are some of the highest character people he knows. "The strong community and relationships that we get to build,” are his favorite parts of Schotties. Nate works as a writing consultant at CofC, plays a lot of chess, and is a huge Browns fan!

Nate is witty and a quick thinker; he keeps us laughing all the time! He has a heart of gold and Schotties would not be the same without him!

Day 2: Tyler Bauereis

Meet Tyler Bauereis! Tyler is from Cincinnati, OH. He is a Marketing major with a minor in Business Administration!

Tyler’s career field of interest is marketing analytics/consulting. He joined Schotties to be surrounded by people who are driven and high-achieving, but also kind and supportive. “It has to be the people,” is his favorite part about Schotties. “From the directors to the other scholars to our mentors, all of them are incredible and being in the program gives you a strong sense of camaraderie.” Tyler loves golfing, traveling, and shooting film photography in his spare time.

Tyler leads by example and is one of the kindest and truest friends anyone could have. He is always there when you need him and we are so lucky to have him in Schotties!

Meet the Scholars!
Day 1: Billy Barlia

To countdown to CofC Day of Giving (January 26) we are going to be highlighting one of our incredible scholars each day. We hope when giving this year you will take the Schottland Scholars program into consideration!

Meet Billy Barlia! Billy hails from Washington, D.C. He is a Business Administration major and has a concentration in Entrepreneurship, with minors in French and Francophone Studies.

Billy’s career field of interest is investing. He joined Schottland Scholars to learn from great business and student leaders, and to surround himself with driven, smart, and kind people. His favorite thing about being a Schottie is the incredible people in the program; the students, professors, and advisors. “It is an amazing community of people who care about you,” he says. Billy is the youngest of four kids, is running a half marathon in a couple weeks, and enjoys listening to podcasts and reading.

Billy is curious, generous, kind, and an amazing leader and friend. We are so grateful to have him in Schotties and know he has an incredibly bright future ahead of him!
