The Department of Communication (COMM) was created in Fall 1999. The department offers one of the largest undergraduate major in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences and on campus at the College of Charleston. The department also offers a Master of Arts in Communication graduate degree, through the Graduate School at the College of Charleston.

Jamelle Bouie is a columnist for The New York Times. He was formerly the chief political correspondent for Slate. He is a notable name in the journalism world for his voice and opinions on race, politics, and history. Throughout his career, Jamelle has received many awards for his outstanding work in journalism and has been actively covering the current political state of the United States

The Columbia Journalism Review praised Bouie in 2019, calling him “one of the defining commentators on politics and race in the Trump era.” The department is honored to host Mr. Bouie and looks forward to your attendance at this insightful conversation.
