EIUโ€™s Pine Honors College helps strong students excel by providing exceptional Honors classes, service and extracurricular opportunities, and support for undergraduate research and study abroad. We encourage academically talented students to fully develop their potential through completion of suitable coursework in small classes taught by excellent faculty. Dedicated to nurturing students intellec

The Honors College also encourages students to involve themselves in undergraduate research and creative activity, community service, study abroad experiences, and professional internships. This provision of an integrated academic experience contributes to Eastern Illinois University's acclaim as a university accomplished in teaching and research and focused on its graduates' success. The Eastern Illinois University Honors College was founded as the Honors Program in 1982 to meet the needs of academically talented students and to encourage intellectual and social growth. Students interested in small classes, a caring faculty and administrators, and carefully thought out courses of study should think about joining the Honors College. The Honors College provides honors housing, advising, scholarships, research grants, priority registration, and, most importantly, a professional and committed staff. Since 1982 we have grown to include over 500 students representing all colleges and a plethora of majors.

Congratulations to Megan Wise, recipient of the 2026 Distinguished Honors Faculty Award! ๐Ÿ† Professor Wise serves in the Department of Public Health and Nutrition. She was nominated by two Honors students graduating with the Class of 2026 โ€“ Desiree Heimbecker and Sophie Kattenbraker. Both Desiree and Sophie emphasized Professor Wiseโ€™s kindness and mentorship. Desiree, who works in EMS, described how she will work to emulate Professor Wiseโ€™s passion when she provides community education. Sophie wrote about life lessons learned from Professor Wise: โ€œMrs. Wise is a very busy person and consistently shows up for everyone in her life, whether that be her students, family, or coworkers. โ€ฆ She is always very present, engaged, and intentional with the time she gives others. Watching how she manages multiple responsibilities while still giving her full attention to the people around her has taught me that how you treat others and show up for them truly matters.โ€ Professor Wise โ€“ we are grateful for your dedication and thoughtful mentorship to students! ๐Ÿ’™
