A new chapter for education, research and rehabilitation at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). ✨

CHP-D, the College of Health Professions’ fourth building, officially opened its doors Oct. 9, expanding opportunities for health professions education, interdisciplinary collaboration and rehabilitation research.

The six-story facility features flexible learning spaces, simulation and laboratory environments, technology-enabled classrooms and advanced research facilities. It is also home to the Center for Rehabilitation Research in Neurological Conditions (CRRNC) and the RENEW Center, research efforts focused on improving function, independence and quality of life for people with neurological conditions and disabilities.

Made possible in part by Tina and Ricky Doscher’s transformational $10 million gift, the largest in the college’s history, CHP-D also supports the MUSC Neurological Exercise and Training (NeXT) Wellness Center and emerging priorities across the college.

More than a new building, CHP-D is an investment in the future of health professions education, rehabilitation research and patient care. 💙

On Oct. 1, Roper St. Francis Healthcare leaders, community partners and local officials gathered to celebrate the launch of Mobile Care for You, a new mobile health unit expanding access to clinical and supportive services across seven Lowcountry counties: Charleston, Berkeley, Dorchester, Williamsburg, Colleton, Horry and Georgetown.

Among those leading the effort was MUSC DHA alumna Dr. Tawana Philpott Brown, program director of the Roper St. Francis Health Services Center.

Drawing on findings from her DHA doctoral project, Brown helped inform the initiative, which will provide primary and preventive care, including health screenings, vaccinations, care coordination and preventive dental services in partnership with MUSC James B. Edwards College of Dental Medicine.

Congratulations to Dr. Brown and the teams working to make quality care more accessible to communities across the region.

For many stroke survivors, recovery means regaining independence, rebuilding confidence and finding a way back to everyday life. For those living in rural communities, however, access to specialized rehabilitation services can be a challenge.

A team of Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) researchers is working to change that through telerehabilitation, bringing cognitive and occupational therapy directly into patients' homes across South Carolina.

More than 50 MUSC DNAP students attended the South Carolina Association of Nurse Anesthesiology (SCANA) Annual Meeting in Charleston this weekend, representing nearly half of our student body across three cohorts!

The conference gave students the opportunity to learn from nurse anesthesia professionals, engage with current advocacy topics and showcase their doctoral research, with seven research groups presenting posters and two taking the podium.

10 MUSC faculty and adjunct faculty members also attended, making for a weekend full of learning, scholarship and connection with nurse anesthesia colleagues across the state. 👏
