NC STRIVE (Student Transition Resource Initiative for Veteran’s Education) is a Governor’s working group that was begun under the previous gubernatorial administration and is continuing under the current administration. The purpose of the initiative is to share best practices to better serve our nation’s veterans, service members and their family members in seeking higher education. In previous years, one statewide NC STRIVE conference was held. As the group and its supporters has grown, it was determined that there was a need to accommodate the entire state by holding regional NC STRIVE conferences. For this region, in 2017, the regional conference will be held in Charlotte, NC at Johnson C. Smith University on April 5, 2017.
This year’s NC STRIVE will focus on the behavioral health of the military student/veteran. Currently, 15 North Carolina institutions of higher learning are registered to attend. There is representation from community colleges and four-year institutions—both public and private. The conference begins at 8 am and ends at 4:30 pm that day. Please register to attend this event at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/nc-strive-charlotte-tickets-31545764230. Also, share this information with anyone in the community that is a veteran or supports the successful transition of veterans through the means of higher education.
This regional conference will highlight behavioral health and other support during the student's academic tenure; strategies for accessing federal, state, and local services and supports; and entrepreneurship opportunities through presentations, discussions, exhibits, and networking activities. We…
