Meet Zarah Rahman Blythe, a Klein College of Science biology major whose UNC Charlotte journey has been shaped by hands-on research, citizen science and the communities she built along the way. 🌿🧪

From leading the Pollinator Club and conducting the Great Southeastern Pollinator Census to founding the Crocheting Club and working in the chemistry stockroom, Zarah found purpose in connecting people, ecology and science. She also presented her research with Office of Undergraduate Research and spent countless hours exploring the UNC Charlotte Botanical Gardens , studying in Atkins and enjoying UREC traditions. 💚

As she graduates this August, Zarah carries forward her passion for ecology, sustainability and microbial research, and the friendships and mentorships that made her time at UNC Charlotte unforgettable. 🎓✨

Happy National Pollinator Week from Field Entomology, BIOL 3234. 🐝

Tuan Cao, Ph.D., leads the field course identifying the insects in the Piedmont of North Carolina. On this day, students took nets to temporarily capture pollinators while exploring their habitat near a pond.

Fun fact: moths are great pollinators too. 🐝🪰🦋Visit the Pollinator Garden, taken care of by UNC Charlotte Pollinator Club to visit other pollinating species.

A gut feeling brought Vera Ntasin to UNC Charlotte, and now she’s graduating with a mathematics degree from the Klein College of Science and a data science minor from the College of Computing and Informatics. 🎓💚 ⛏️

To honor her outstanding scholarship and leadership as a Niner Guide, SAFE mentor and treasurer and dance coordinator for the Organization of African Students, Ntasin was awarded a 2026 Distinguished Leaders Medal from the Office of Leadership & Community Engagement. 🏅

Ntasin gained professional experience through two Deloitte internships and a Wells Fargo externship and is already continuing her education through UNC Charlotte’s Data Science and Business Analytics early entry master’s program. 🎉

A historic moment for Niner Nation 💚✨

has officially named the Ishwar Aggarwal Department of Physics and Optical Science, marking the first time a sitting professor has endowed an academic department in University history. 🎉

Ishwar “Ish” Aggarwal’s impact reaches far beyond his groundbreaking work in optical science. His guiding philosophy of “trust and share” shaped research teams, inspired young scientists and fueled innovations that changed industries.

Now, with a $2 million gift from Aggarwal and his wife, Shail, graduate students in physics and optical science will have new opportunities to pursue discovery and push the boundaries of what’s possible.
