Run for Life 5K 2020 Coronavirus Update
Hi all-
My name is Alexi Comella and I am ZTA's Run for Life 5K Director for 2020. My committee and I have been working hard for the past few months to make the 5K race this year just as incredible and fun as always, however, recent circumstances have changed things.
As I’m sure you know, due to coronavirus concerns, UVA has placed all classes online, is discouraging students from coming back to grounds after spring break, and is prohibiting university-sponsored events over 100 people. With these limitations in place, I found it difficult to find a path forward for the race.
After talking with the executive board of my chapter, UVA Events, our local Charlottesville advisors, ZTA nationals, and then getting told by IM Sports who we rent space through that we cannot host our event, I have decided to cancel our race. This decision was not made lightly and I am incredibly disappointed that I had to make this decision. I had hoped that we would be able to still host our event if UVA students returned to Charlottesville; however, it would be irresponsible to hope that everything will be okay, continue to hope that the race will go on, and then cancel the event last minute; leaving businesses, runners, and my chapter feeling cheated out of energy, money, and time spent dedicated to the event.
I am so disappointed that we will not be having a Run for Life 5K this year but I'm sure the Run for Life 5K 2021 will come back better than ever. Thank you all so much for supporting our race and please reach out to me at [email protected] if you have any questions.
Best,
Alexi Comella
