At the University of Virginia, the National Pan-Hellenic Council was first known as the Black Fraternal Council (BFC), and it was established in the Fall of 1973 with the charter of the Lambda Zeta chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. It wasn’t until the Fall of 2005 when the BFC became the National Pan-Hellenic Council at the University. Ever since, the NPHC on Grounds has held themselves to the highest standards to bring quality programs to the community, service to all, and leadership while achieving academic excellence. Patricia Roberts Harris: Minding My Mental Health - The Kappa Rho Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. welcomes you to join us during our charter week to raise awareness about mental health within the black community. As you know, mental health issues are very often stigmatized and we want everyone to know it's okay to not be okay. We will be showing clips from Darnell Walker's film 'Outside the House' and will have Dr. Nicole Fischer from CAPS discuss the increased susceptibility African Americans have to be diagnosed with mental illnesses. Various other representatives from NAMI, SARA, One Less, etc. will also be present to answer any questions and offer support. This event is on September 28 at 6pm in Nau 101.
