Widener University Jack & Nancy Dwyer School of Nursing Named a Top Nursing School for Men for the Second Straight Year 🎉🥳

The American Association for Men In Nursing, or AAMN, named Widener University Jack & Nancy Dwyer School of Nursing one of the nation’s top schools for men pursuing nursing careers.

It was the second consecutive year the program earned the honor, which went to only 16 schools nationwide.

The AAMN recognized the Dwyer School of Nursing for its efforts to recruit and retain men in nursing, foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment, and educate faculty, students, and the broader community about the contributions men have made, and continue to make, to the nursing profession.

Last week, undergraduate students from the across the university in the SURCA program presented their research.

Widener University Summer Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities (SURCA) program offers undergraduate students hands-on, faculty-mentored research experience over the summer. The work culminates in the annual SURCA Symposium where students present their work and are scored by a panel of faculty and staff judges.

From Widener University Jack & Nancy Dwyer School of Nursing, junior nursing students Jawad-Guillaume Bangoura-Challoub and Kennedy Macintosh presented their projects.

🎉🥳 Congratulations to Kennedy for being selected as the 2026 SURCA Symposium winner for Business/Humanities. Her project was titled, "Simulated knowledge: Understanding LLM epistemology to improve human use of AI tools" and led by faculty mentor Dr. Thomas Wilk.

Take the old Operation board game but make it 2026! That’s what our new Anatomage Table in the Widener University Jack & Nancy Dwyer School of Nursing looks like.

But it isn’t a game. It’s a life-sized virtual dissection tool designed to provide students with an immersive, three-dimensional understanding of the human body.

The Anatomage Table allows students to explore realistic anatomy & visualize clinical procedures, including how IVs and catheters move through the human body. Students can also examine real clinical cases involving conditions such as cancer, stroke, and trauma.

Many of our amazing faculty are attending National League for Nursing Education Summit this week in Washington DC.

The theme, Beyond the Storm: Reshaping Resilience & Recovery provides the opportunity for hundreds of nurse educators in attendance, to connect with and forge meaningful relationships with peers and colleagues.

Dr. Baskin's poster presentation, entitled "Nurses' Mental Health and Wellbeing During COVID: Future Directions", examined the burnout and stress during the pandemic.

Simulation Director Teresa Lamarra, Dr. Davies, and Dr. Kokoszka, led a session titled, "From Rising Waters to Burning Buildings: Immerse Yourself in a Post-Disaster Simulation" where they immersed attendees in the experience of our Disaster Simulation highlighting both the design and impact.

What motivated you to choose nursing, and what confirmed that nursing was the right path for you?

Today, freshman in Dr. Clemens and Dr. Bobal's Nursing Seminar course participated in a Nursing Panel. It gave our first-year students a chance to hear directly from those who have been in their shoes.

Panelists shared honest insights about why they chose nursing, what clinicals are really like, how they manage the demands of nursing school, and what keeps them motivated when the work gets challenging.

A huge thank you to our panelists with 60+ years of experience for sharing their experiences, encouragement, and practical advice with the next generation of nurses. Your honesty and leadership made a meaningful impact.
