A warm Lynch School welcome to Dr. Stephanie Chalk, who joins us as a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Counseling, Developmental, and Educational Psychology!

As the founder and owner of a private practice, Dr. Chalk brings a wealth of professional and academic experience to the community. Her research centers race-based trauma, multiculturalism, and international psychology and comparative mental health. She is especially passionate about using research to better understand the systems and experiences that influence individual well-being and to translate those findings into meaningful change in law, policy, and practice.

Good evening everybody! My name is Naomi and I am in my first year of the Masters in Mental Health Counseling program! 

I was born and raised in Worcester, Massachusetts and still live there with my mother and cat. I commute to BC by train so my travel time one way is about 2 hours and 20 minutes. I know that sounds terrible, but honestly-its more than worth it. I've wanted to be a counselor for just about as long as I can remember, and being at Boston College is an absolute dream. 

I spend most of my time in Campion Hall in the Grad Lounge! I work a full time hybrid position based in Worcester Massachusetts, so besides my one in person day I spend most of my time working my day job remotely in the lounge before going to classes in the evening. Since I'm there most of the day, its such a wonderful experience getting to talk to other students as they pop in and out. 

When I'm not working I enjoy taking long walks around campus, exploring the beautiful architecture and enjoying the Boston air. I also love spending time in the library and studying in the far study booths! 

My favorite part of this program so far is the emphasis on multicultural awareness and cultural humility. We always have such deep conversations in class as our professors deeply value our opinions and perspectives. This has led to many opportunities to foster meaningful relationships with my classmates as well, which I am very grateful for! 

If you want to hear more from me or about graduate studies at Boston College, I'll be present for our Mental Health Counseling Program Overview webinar on Oct. 19 from 12-1 pm on zoom. I'll also be on a student panel at Boston College's Admissions in person event from 5:15-7pm on Wednesday Oct. 21st.
