🎶 Making music AND making history!

NCE Professor Dr. Kristin Lems, musician and founder of the National Women’s Music Festival, recently presented at the 28th Annual Conference on Illinois History in Springfield. Her presentation, Women’s Music in the Cornfields: The National Women’s Music Festival in Champaign-Urbana, 1973–79, explored the festival’s early years and its place in Illinois cultural history.

📸 Pictured here, Dr. Lems delivers the keynote at the festival’s 50th celebration on July 4, 2026, wearing the original T-shirt created for the very first festival!

Congratulations, Dr. Lems, on continuing to share and preserve this important history! 💙

Six presentations at one national conference! 👏📊

NCE faculty member Dr. Xiaoli Wen recently presented at the 2026 National Research Conference on Early Childhood in Arlington, Virginia.

Across six presentations, Dr. Wen and her colleagues from the McCormick Institute for Early Childhood shared research examining early childhood leadership, professional learning and coaching, family child care, organizational climate, and workforce commitment.

From listening to what early childhood program directors want from professional development to examining the state of the early childhood workplace, this work is helping deepen our understanding of the people and systems that support young children and their educators.

Congratulations to Dr. Wen and her colleagues on an impressive showing at NRCEC 2026! 💙

📚 New from NCE faculty!
Congratulations to Dr. Sadia Warsi on the publication of her third book, Faith, Family, and Neurodiversity: Islamic Approaches to Understanding Autism!

The book centers the voices and expertise of Muslim families raising children with autism, exploring the intersections of faith, culture, disability services, and education. It is part of the From disability to ABILITY series and marks Dr. Warsi’s third book published over the past academic year!

We’re proud to celebrate the scholarship of our National College of Education faculty and the important perspectives they bring to the field. 💙

This summer, five NLU Education majors spent five weeks making a difference at Chase Literacy, founded by NLU alum Dr. Kimberly Chase. Through this paid internship, they worked four days each week with K–3 students, building literacy skills while gaining valuable hands-on experience of their own.

We love seeing NLU educators supporting young readers—and learning alongside them! 📚💙✨

Okay, NLU… can we talk about these nails?! 💅💙✨

We spotted this incredible NLU nail art on one of our alumni at Grad Fest this year, and it got us thinking: What’s the coolest, funniest, most creative, or most beloved NLU gear you’ve ever seen?

Drop it in the comments — bonus points if you have a photo! 📸

And NCE educators and alumni… stay tuned. We’ve got some fun new swag coming your way soon. 👀

📰 NLU in the News!

As Dr. Eddie Phillips begins his tenure as President of National Louis University this month, the National College of Education is excited to welcome his leadership — and to see his vision for NLU featured by ABC7 Chicago!

Dr. Phillips spoke about how NLU is evolving to meet today’s students where they are, with a focus on time, convenience, affordability, quality and career readiness.

Here at NCE, we’re excited to be part of that work as we continue preparing educators and leaders to make an impact in their schools and communities. 💙

💙 NLU was proud to support El Valor’s 33rd Annual Don Quixote Gala, celebrating community impact and the remarkable legacy of Rey B. Gonzalez.

We’re especially proud of NCE Professor Dr. Ayn Keneman, whose continued service on El Valor’s Board of Directors and Parent Policy Council helps strengthen the important partnership between NLU and El Valor.

Together, we’re supporting stronger children, families and communities across Chicago. 💙
