Okay, NLU… can we talk about these nails?! 💅💙✨

We spotted this incredible NLU nail art on one of our alumni at Grad Fest this year, and it got us thinking: What’s the coolest, funniest, most creative, or most beloved NLU gear you’ve ever seen?

Drop it in the comments — bonus points if you have a photo! 📸

And NCE educators and alumni… stay tuned. We’ve got some fun new swag coming your way soon. 👀

📰 NLU in the News!

As Dr. Eddie Phillips begins his tenure as President of National Louis University this month, the National College of Education is excited to welcome his leadership — and to see his vision for NLU featured by ABC7 Chicago!

Dr. Phillips spoke about how NLU is evolving to meet today’s students where they are, with a focus on time, convenience, affordability, quality and career readiness.

Here at NCE, we’re excited to be part of that work as we continue preparing educators and leaders to make an impact in their schools and communities. 💙

💙 NLU was proud to support El Valor’s 33rd Annual Don Quixote Gala, celebrating community impact and the remarkable legacy of Rey B. Gonzalez.

We’re especially proud of NCE Professor Dr. Ayn Keneman, whose continued service on El Valor’s Board of Directors and Parent Policy Council helps strengthen the important partnership between NLU and El Valor.

Together, we’re supporting stronger children, families and communities across Chicago. 💙

📚 NCE in the News!

What do first-year teachers and veteran educators starting at a new school have in common? They both need support—but not necessarily the same support.

NCE Associate Professor Dr. Renee Gugel shares her expertise in Education Week, exploring a common mistake schools make when onboarding new teachers and why mentoring should recognize the experience educators already bring with them.

👏 Congratulations to Dr. Gugel on sharing her expertise with educators and school leaders nationwide!

We're celebrating an incredible showing by NLU educators on a national stage! 💙

Five NLU graduates and two professors attended the 2026 National Teachers Hall of Fame Education Summit at Walt Disney World in Florida. With only about 150 educators participating nationwide, NLU had the largest representation of any participating institution.

NCE nominated four graduates from Illinois and one from Florida to participate as Early Career Educators. Over three days, they learned alongside educators from across the country through keynote presentations, breakout sessions, small-group reflection, networking and more.

Dr. Carla Sparks and Dr. Kathy Kotel attended alongside the group—and saw firsthand what the experience meant for NLU's educators.

Dr. Sparks especially remembered watching one graduate push herself to make new professional connections: “To see her doing that was pretty amazing.”

And those connections don't necessarily end when the Summit does. The National Teachers Hall of Fame experience was designed to help early-career educators build professional community and continue learning beyond the event.

We're incredibly proud of the NLU educators who represented our community—and of what can happen when promising educators are given opportunities to learn, connect and grow.

NCE faculty are taking their work—and their research—nationwide! ✈️📚

At the Association of Teacher Educators 2026 Summer Conference in Seattle, NCE faculty and colleagues shared work exploring two important pieces of educator preparation: building high-impact teacher residency programs and understanding the role belonging plays as paraprofessionals transition into teaching.

We're proud to see NCE faculty contributing to conversations that help shape how we prepare and support the next generation of educators. 💙
