Dear all,

There are three great events at NEIU that I encourage you to attend. Note that all these three events are free (and comes with a free lunch). Here are the information:

1) Women In Science, honoring women in Chemistry, on Thursday November 14. I will try to post the schedule soon. The day includes talks by Jing Su (NEIU), Sudha Srinivas (NEIU, her talks at the two previous Women In Science were awesome, and this is why we wanted to have her again this year), Anita Mehta (President and CEO of Chicago Discovery Solutions), Panel Discussion, Free Lunch, Art Exhibit, Science Hands-on Experiences (bring your kiddos), and a theatrical performance by Maria Boundas Bakali (NEIU Alumni).

2) NEIU 10th Annual Faculty Symposium, on Friday November 15. I will try to post the schedule soon. But I want to point out two talks by math faculty:

Zeke Zeng, Newtons's Iteration at Nonisolated Solutions, SU 217 at 10:20 am.

Emma Turian, Tumor Dynamics under Immunotherapy: A Time-Delay Revised Predator-Prey Model, SU 214 at 1:20 pm.

3) 15th Mathematical and Statistical Modeling of Complex Systems Workshop on Monday November 18 (Alumni Hall South) and Tuesday November 19 (BBH 102). The Modeling Workshop are organized by the Math Department. I will try to post the schedule soon. There will be various talks by NEIU faculty, NEIU students (graduate and undergraduate), and several faculty from the Warsaw School of Economics.

I very much encourage you to attend (whenever you can), especially the Modeling Workshop. Also, feel free to message me if you need extra information and/or have a question.

We have a chess club that meets at 12 pm on Wednesdays in the cafeteria. The chess club is open to ALL (students, faculty, and staff). Currently, it consists of students and staff of NEIU. We have one Candidate Master, one National Master, some strong class players, some advanced beginners, and some beginners.

All levels are welcome! Whether you are an absolute beginner, World Champion Magnus Carlsen or somewhere in between. We have players near your level ready to give you a good game! 🙂. We play with AND without chess clocks.

The club is at 12 because that is when staff can take their lunch! 😉
