🔬 Chicago is now home to a truly one-of-a-kind research tool. has acquired the world's first MONO-MARS atomic-scale electron microscope outside of Japan, opening new possibilities for studying superconductors and advanced materials at the atomic level.

Kudos to Physicist Robert Klie for spearheading this groundbreaking achievement and helping position UIC as a leader in electron microscopy research.

Joseph D. Zak of UIC Department of Biological Sciences, along with fellow researchers, co-authored a new study uncovering how depression may alter the way we experience smells.

The team found that stress-related activation of microglia, the brain's immune cells, was linked to heightened sensitivity to unpleasant odors, offering new insight into the sensory effects of depression and potential future treatment approaches.
