Join us October 20 and 27 as Dr. Lauren Schwer, Director of Ignatian Spirituality at Loyola University, leads us in the Ignatian practice of imaginative prayer. Using Scripture, our senses, and an invitation to the Holy Spirit, Ignatian Contemplation invites an individual to encounter God (often specifically Jesus) in the Gospels in a dynamic and unfolding way. By imagining you yourself are embedded within a Gospel story, new conversations and understandings of relationship can unfold.

From its inauguration in 1951 to today, the David Nyvall lectureship series has been stimulating interest in the interpretation of the Christian message for the contemporary world. We are deeply grateful to Dr. Reggie L. Williams for delivering the 2026 Nyvall Lecture last week, and to all those who joined in person and online to reflect on its timely and sobering topic: "The Bonhoeffer Conundrum: A Complicated Story of Resistance to Fascism." You can now find view (and share) the lecture on the NPTS website here: https://seminary.northpark.edu/nyvall-lecture/video-2026-david-nyvall-memorial-lecture-the-bonhoeffer-conundrum-a-complicated-story-of-resistance-to-fascism/. Tonight’s community worship celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month, led by community members Eneida Reyes, Karla Walker, Cheryl-Lynn Alexander-Bermudez, and Sophia Magallanes-Tsang. NPTS alum Rev. José González, lead pastor at Northbrook Covenant Church, preached on Luke 15:11–32, reminding us that God’s love is not dependent on what we do—and we don’t need to clean ourselves up to come to God. “Thinking God’s love is earned separates us from God’s joy, whether through anxiety or entitlement. God loves because God is love. God loves you, and there is nothing you can do about it. This is both reassuring and wildly offensive.”

NPTS faculty expertise serves the church and forms its future leaders beyond the classroom! This past weekend at the Covenant Harbor Women's Retreat, Drs. Michelle Dodson (Associate Professor of Ministry) and Hauna Ondrey (Associate Professor of Church History) shared some of their instrumental sociological and historical research for the 50th anniversary of women's ordination. Through storytelling, scholarship, and reflection, they invited participants to see themselves within the "cloud of witnesses."
