Economics Department of Northeastern Illinois University

Economics Department of Northeastern Illinois University Keeping alumni, students and friends connected with each other, the department and the university.

Economics is the study of how we make choices to allocate our scarce resources. Our majors and minors can expect to develop a set of decision-making tools that are useful in nearly any environment—from individuals and households to businesses, non-profit organizations and governments. We are active in student-faculty collaborative research on topics ranging from smoking policy to international bus

iness cycles, and our graduates have gone on to careers and graduate programs in Economics and other related fields.

If you're interested, there is a lecture on Game Theory tonight!

*************************

The University community is invited to attend a lecture titled “Introduction to Game Theory” by Dr. Jacek Prokop, Vice Rector for International Relations and Head of Department of Business Economics at Warsaw School of Economics from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, June 20, on the Main Campus in BBH 317. The main objective of this lecture is to introduce students to the basic ideas and applications of game theory. Topics to be addressed include models of games in extensive and strategic form, equilibria with randomization, and chance moves. This course should prepare students to better understand the behavior of economic agents, and improve their decision-making skills.

The lecture is free and open to the public.

Prokop earned his Ph.D. in Economics from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. After spending four years in the doctoral program at Virginia Tech, he became a tenure-track faculty member in the Department of Management and Strategy (now the Department of Strategy) at Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University, where he has taught and conducted research for seven years.

The event is hosted by PEACER and the Department of Mathematics in cooperation with the Office of International Programs.
