We are excited to announce our Guest Speaker Gaby Martinez-Ramirez for our SCSE Student Research Symposium this Friday.
Dr. Gaby Martinez-Ramirez is a biochemist, a laboratory operations leader, and an advocate for building inclusive scientific communities. As the Lab Operations Manager at the UChicago Science Incubator, she supports a growing ecosystem of startups and innovators across life sciences, clean energy technologies, and quantum science. In her role, she oversees laboratory infrastructure, operations, and resources that enable researchers, entrepreneurs, and emerging companies to advance scientific discovery and technological innovation.
Dr. Martinez-Ramirez earned her PhD in Biochemistry from Loyola University Chicago in 2024. Her doctoral research focused on the regulatory and structural properties of ADP-Glucose Pyrophosphorylase in photosynthetic and heterotrophic organisms, providing her with a strong foundation in biochemical research and scientific problem-solving. Drawing upon her academic training and laboratory experience, she has developed a unique professional perspective that combines scientific expertise with operational leadership.
At the UChicago Science Incubator, Dr. Martinez-Ramirez approaches laboratory operations as both a science and a service. She is dedicated to creating efficient, safe, and well-supported research environments where scientists and founders can focus on innovation. By working at the intersection of science, operations, and community, she helps build the infrastructure and support systems that accelerate research and enable startup growth.
Beyond her operational responsibilities, Dr. Martinez-Ramirez is passionate about mentorship, community engagement, and expanding access to careers in science and innovation. As a proud Latina in STEM, she actively supports organizations including Latinas in STEM, Women in Bio, and SACNAS, where she serves as both a mentor and mentee. She is particularly committed to encouraging the next generation of scientists by creating opportunities, sharing experiences, and advocating for greater representation of underrepresented communities in STEM fields.
Through her leadership, mentorship, and dedication to operational excellence, Dr. Martinez-Ramirez continues to strengthen the scientific ecosystem while empowering researchers and innovators to succeed.
