🎓 Third Annual UIC PT Alumni Lecture and Social

Join us for our third annual UIC Physical Therapy Alumni Lecture and Social as we welcome back Dr. Fred Sampang, Class of 2016, as this year’s featured alumni lecturer.

This event is a great opportunity for alumni, students, faculty, and friends of the program to reconnect, celebrate our community, and hear from one of our own.

🏆 Congratulations, Dr. Tanvi Bhatt!

We are proud to congratulate Dr. Tanvi Bhatt, PT, PhD, recipient of the 2026 Illinois Physical Therapy Association Outstanding Researcher Award!

This new award recognizes sustained excellence in research and dissemination that advances the physical therapy profession.

Dr. Bhatt’s research has made important contributions to our understanding of reactive balance control, fall prevention, and motor adaptation following neurologic injury, with work that continues to influence rehabilitation science and clinical practice.

It is especially meaningful to see her scholarship and impact recognized by peers within our profession, and even more exciting to see her become the first recipient of this award.

Congratulations, Dr. Bhatt, on this outstanding and historic achievement! 👏🔥

🏃‍♀️🔥 UIC PT Rallies Around Our Chicago Marathon Runners!

Marathon weekend was about more than just 26.2 miles; it was also a great opportunity for our UIC Physical Therapy community to come together in support of the students, faculty, and alumni taking on the Chicago Marathon.

The celebration started Friday with a carb-loading gathering to help send our runners into race weekend fueled and ready.

Students also joined in a longtime tradition started by Dr. Severin, who has made personalized race-day signs for runners for many years. Each sign was created in the runner’s favorite color or colors, and this year, the tradition became a program-wide effort. Students, faculty, and others in the department were invited to add their signatures, messages, and personal well wishes. A few students even helped bedazzle the signs with a little extra glitter and flair before they made their way out to the course. ✨

It was a fun way to make each sign a little more personal and an even better way to bring the community together around those taking on an incredible challenge.

Congratulations to all of our runners, and thank you to everyone who helped make marathon weekend such a great display of UIC PT spirit, support, and community! ❤️🔥

🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️ Chicago Marathon Day!

Congrats and good luck to all of the runners taking on the 2026 Bank of America Chicago Marathon today; especially the members of our UIC community hitting the streets of Chicago!

We’re proud to cheer on our students, faculty, alumni, colleagues, and friends as they take on 26.2 miles and one of the city’s most iconic events.

Months of training, preparation, and perseverance all lead to today. Whether you’re running, volunteering, or cheering from the sidelines, we hope you have an incredible race day.

🏆 A Standout Night for UICPT at the IPTA 75th Anniversary Celebration

UIC had an incredible showing at the Illinois Physical Therapy Association’s 75th Anniversary and Awards Ceremony, with faculty earning three of the evening’s major honors.

Congratulations to:

• Dr. Oliver Rivera — Clinical Educator of the Year
• Dr. Gauthier — Outstanding Physical Therapist Clinician Award
• Dr. Tanvi Bhatt — The Inaugural Outstanding Researcher Award

It was a remarkable night for UICPT and a tremendous reflection of the impact our faculty continue to make across education, clinical practice, and research.

Even more meaningful was seeing these accomplishments recognized by peers within our professional association, alongside the strong support of UIC faculty and alumni who were there to celebrate with them.

🎉 October is National Physical Therapy Month! 🎉

The UIC Department of Physical Therapy is celebrating all month long with opportunities to connect, give back, learn, and show our PT pride! ❤️💙

Throughout October, our faculty, staff, and students will take part in Spirit Week, grand rounds, potlucks, a shoe drive, a residency fair, and other activities celebrating our profession and our community.

National Physical Therapy Month is also an opportunity to recognize the impact physical therapists and physical therapist assistants make every day; helping people improve movement, function, health, and quality of life.

We’re proud to join the American Physical Therapy Association and PT communities across the country in celebrating our profession throughout October.

🌎 Faculty Spotlight: Dr. Gauthier at ICSET

Last week, Dr. Gauthier presented at the International Congress of Shoulder and Elbow Therapy (ICSET) in Vancouver, BC, where he shared a season-long study using ultrasound imaging to examine the UCL and medial elbow structures in collegiate baseball pitchers.

The conference provided a great opportunity to connect with clinicians and researchers from around the world who are focused on advancing shoulder and elbow health in athletes.

Congratulations to Dr. Gauthier and his collaborators on sharing this work with an international audience, and thank you to the attendees who engaged with the project and contributed thoughtful questions and discussion.

🎉 Celebrating National Physical Therapy Month!

October is National Physical Therapy Month, and we’re excited to celebrate all month long with activities across our program and community.

Throughout the month, we’ll be hosting Grand Rounds, a shoe drive, Spirit Week, potlucks, a residency fair, and other opportunities to connect, learn, give back, and celebrate our profession together.

This year’s APTA theme, “PT For Future Me,” highlights the many ways physical therapy supports movement, wellness, and independence at every stage of life. Through personalized plans that reflect each person’s goals, needs, and abilities, physical therapists help people stay active, recover from injury, manage health conditions, and work toward long-term health and well-being.

For us, October is also a chance to celebrate the people who make our profession special; our students, faculty, alumni, clinical partners, and the communities we serve.

We’re looking forward to a great month of PT pride, connection, service, and celebration! ❤️🔥
