First Week in the Books! ๐Ÿ“š๐ŸŽ‰

And just like that, a new academic year is underway at UIC DPT!

Weโ€™re excited to welcome back our Class of 2028 as they begin their second year and officially welcome the Class of 2029 as they start their DPT journey with us! ๐ŸŽ“

And while we may not see them around campus right now, our Class of 2027 is hard at work on clinical rotations, continuing their learning out in the clinic and putting their skills into practice. ๐Ÿ’ช

After a busy first week of classes, labs, reconnecting with classmates, and meeting new faces, itโ€™s great to have our students back and the halls full again.

Whether learning in the classroom, the lab, or the clinic, weโ€™re excited for another year of learning, growing, and building community together. โค๏ธ๐Ÿ’™

Welcome back, everyone. One week down, and weโ€™re just getting started! ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Aloha, Zach! ๐ŸŒบ๐Ÿค™

As Zach Griffith, PT, DPT, MS, CSCS officially completes his UIC Sports Physical Therapy Residency tomorrow, we celebrated the end of an incredible year with our traditional residency sendoff luau themed party complete with leis, great food, great speeches, and even better company!

Congratulations, Zach, on an outstanding year. It has been incredible to watch your growth not only as a clinician and professional, but as a person. We are excited to see what comes next as you begin your new position soon! ๐Ÿ‘€

Of course, no residency sendoff would be complete without another UIC PT Residency tradition. Zach added his signature to the residency cohort frisbee, joining every cohort dating all the way back to our inaugural 2014โ€“2015 residency class. More than a decade of residents and memories on one frisbee; and somehow weโ€™re still finding room for signatures! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿฅ

Congratulations, Zach! Thank you for an awesome year and for leaving your mark on UIC PT; literally and figuratively.

Hereโ€™s to many more residents, many more cohort signatures. ๐ŸŒบ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Sports Residency Capstone Spotlight ๐Ÿ”ฌ๐Ÿƒ

Congratulations to Zach Griffith, PT, DPT, MS, CSCS our UIC Sports Physical Therapy Resident, on an outstanding capstone presentation!

Zach presented โ€œThe Effects of Fatiguing Running on Femoral Articular Cartilage Thickness,โ€ highlighting findings from his residency research project using ultrasound imaging to examine changes in femoral articular cartilage thickness following running in healthy recreational runners.

The project produced some fascinating findings and was a great example of integrating sports physical therapy, research, and advanced imaging to explore questions relevant to clinical practice.

A special thank you to Dr. Matt Gauthier, Dr. Lindsay Hannigan, Dr. Shah, and everyone from the Human & Sport Performance Lab, UIC Faculty Practice, and UIC Sports Medicine who helped support Zach and this project along the way.

And what a turnout! ๐Ÿ‘ Thank you to our DPT students, faculty, residents, and colleagues who packed the room to support Zach. It was one of our most well-attended resident seminars yet and a great reflection of the UIC PT community.

Outstanding work, Zach! We are excited to celebrate this milestone as you get closer to completing your UIC Sports Physical Therapy Residency! ๐Ÿ”ฅ

UIC Athletics Physicals Day ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿƒ

This week, UIC DPT students and our Sports Physical Therapy Residents participated in UIC Athletics Physicals Day, working alongside the UIC Athletics as student-athletes prepare for the season ahead!

Students and residents had the opportunity to apply their skills in a real-world sports setting while gaining valuable hands-on experience as part of the preseason physicals process.

Experiences like these provide another opportunity to connect education with clinical practice while strengthening the collaboration between UIC Physical Therapy and UIC Athletics.

Good luck to all UIC student-athletes as they get ready for another great year! Go Flames! ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Class of 2029, Welcome to our Community ๐ŸŽ“๐ŸŽ‰

Orientation is officially in the books! On Friday, we welcomed the UIC DPT Class of 2029 to campus as they prepare to begin their journey as physical therapy students.

Throughout orientation, our newest students heard from program and department leadership, participated in informational sessions, connected with current students during a student panel, shared lunch with faculty, and explored campus on a tour led by our second-year students.

A huge thank you to our faculty, staff, and students who helped make orientation a great introduction to the UIC DPT program and campus community!

Classes start Monday, and weโ€™re excited for another year of learning, growing, and building community together. Until then, enjoy those last few moments of summer! โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿ˜Ž
