Independent Model Review Analyst, HSBC, was one of the early roles in Veronika Shestakova’s (BA/M.S. FIN ’18) career after graduating from Stuart School of Business.

As a student, Shestakova excelled academically while also taking on leadership roles through Stuart Investments and competing in the Zurich Enterprise Challenge, where her team placed among the top 20 globally. These experiences helped her develop the teamwork, critical thinking, leadership and project management skills that shaped her career.

After graduating, she began her career at Eurex Exchange before joining HSBC as an independent model review analyst in Chicago. She is now a senior risk management manager at Capital One, previously Discover, where she continues to build her expertise in risk management.

Outside of her professional work, Shestakova has shared her expertise at international conferences and through published articles covering topics such as artificial intelligence, the gig economy, and macroeconomic trends.

Real world learning creates real world impact.
Students in Illinois Tech's Stuart School of Business partnered with the Chicago Park District to help redesign the fee structure for its summer day camps, which serve more than 16,000 children across nearly 200 parks each year.
Through the PA 580 Program Evaluation in Public Policy course, students analyzed community data, developed a more transparent pricing model, and presented their recommendations directly to Chicago Park District leadership. The project gave students the opportunity to apply classroom concepts to a real client while gaining valuable professional experience.
Industry Assistant Professor Wenchen Wang believes projects like these prepare students for careers in public service by connecting theory with practice and demonstrating how data-driven decisions can strengthen communities.
