Members of the Hispanic American Business Student Association recently celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month at a mixer. Around 20 students attended the event, which doubled as a great introduction to the group for first-year students.

“To me, Hispanic Heritage Month is a celebration of our families, our histories across the many Latin American countries we represent, and our presence and impact in the US,” says Full-Time MBA student Hector Quijano, a co-chair of the group. “It’s a chance to come together and remember where we come from, where we are now, and where we’re going.”

When Hector arrived at Booth, he knew he wanted to be active in the Hispanic community. Now, he’s excited to provide others with the same connection through HABSA. “Building community is incredibly important to me, and I’m excited to see HABSA grow each year, with more members, new events and traditions like our annual fall retreat and La Última Fiesta in the spring, and greater awareness of our community at Booth,” he says.

Every MBA student’s experience begins with LEAD, Chicago Booth’s signature experiential leadership course. During Full-Time MBA orientation, LEAD features a variety of fun leadership activities and reflection exercises led by second-year LEAD facils.

“In order to be a leader, you have to be able to give yourself to others. You have to coach others, mentor others,” says LEAD facil Sony Gajjala. “It’s work that will really help you grow into this holistic leader.”

Madhav Rajan, the Steven S. Wymer Dean, shares his vision for Chicago Booth and explains the need for investments in research and education to confront today’s challenges and seize tomorrow’s opportunities. The multiyear Chicago Minds fundraising campaign offers Booth a framework to do just that.

“We’ve been successful on pretty much every dimension,” Rajan says. “For us, the campaign is an opportunity to go to the next level at a time when the world is rapidly changing.”

Spending eight years in the Navy taught Full-Time MBA student Kyle Pate that mental health isn’t just a personal concern. Now, he works to spread that message as a Booth Wellness Fellow. “I want my classmates to know health and wellness is as important in their professional lives as in their personal ones,” Kyle says.

Kyle and the other Wellness Fellows plan events throughout the school year that focus on all aspects of wellness, from fitness classes to tea tastings to financial health seminars. To him, the events aren’t just a moment to de-stress—they’re a good way to connect with classmates.

“Booth Wellness aspires to remind each of us to take care of ourselves,” he says. “In addition, a good manager needs to know how to take care of their people, and part of that is displaying what wellness looks like.”
