At DePaul, Chicago is part of how you learn.

For freshmen taking Summer Sports in Chicago, that meant spending part of their first week of Chicago Quarter at the 16-inch Chicago Softball Hall of Fame joined by professionals from the Chicago Bears. As part of DePaul’s Layered-Learning approach, students connect classroom insights with off-campus immersions to explore a game woven into the city’s history and culture. As the class learned about Chicago softball, students studying sports business and business analytics got a chance to ask Bears staff members how their own academic interests show up in the industry.

This year, five projects earned Crystal Pillar Award nominations from the Chicago/Midwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

As host of the 2026 Opus Prize, DePaul University sent student ambassadors to meet this year’s finalists and encounter the communities shaped through their work. Through those experiences, students saw firsthand how faith, service and a commitment to human dignity can translate into meaningful action. Today, we remember Todd Beamer (BUS ’93) and honor his legacy on the 25th anniversary of 9/11.

As a passenger aboard United Airlines Flight 93, Todd demonstrated remarkable courage in the face of unimaginable circumstances. His words, “Let’s roll,” became an enduring symbol of selflessness and strength.

His impact continues through the Todd M. Beamer Memorial Scholarship, which supports students in DePaul’s Kellstadt Graduate School of Business.

We remember Todd and all those whose lives were lost that day.

DePaul is proud to host the 2026 Opus Prize, a prestigious award honoring faith-based leaders whose work addresses some of the world's most persistent social challenges.

The finalists for this year’s prize are:
• Nontsasa Nyovane, Founder and executive director of Siyakhathala (“We Care”) in Cape Town, South Africa, caring for orphans and survivors of abuse through after-school programs, parenting workshops and job training.
• The Rev. Vitaliy Novak, C.M., Founder of Depaul Ukraine, providing humanitarian relief to those displaced by war, and serving as a frontline chaplain in the Ukrainian Air Force.
• The Rev. David Kelly, C.PP.S., Executive director of Precious Blood Ministry of Reconciliation, leading restorative justice work with youth and families affected by violence right here in Chicago.

Supported by the Opus Prize Foundation, the prize awards $1 million for the laureate and two $100,000 awards for finalists to support their organizations. This year's theme, "Uplifting the Dignity of All," reflects our Vincentian mission on a global stage.

The DePaul University School of Cinematic Arts has been ranked the No. 10 film school in the nation by The Hollywood Reporter, once again earning its place among the country's most respected programs.

We loved seeing Tom Skilling explore Cinespace Chicago Film Studios and stopping in to check out DePaul’s stages and sets at Cinespace!

There’s something special about being immersed in the creative community of the “Hollywood of the Midwest.” The DePaul University School of Cinematic Arts provides students with a unique opportunity to learn on a working production lot where many acclaimed Chicago-based shows and movies are filmed. DePaul students gain real-world hands-on experience while developing technical and storytelling skills to prepare for careers in film and television. 🎬

WGN's Tom Skilling got a behind-the-scenes look at Cinespace Chicago, known as 'The Hollywood of the Midwest.' It spans 60 acres, includes 51 sound stages, and employs thousands of people.

Kary chose DePaul for its academic programs and strong sense of community—factors that are especially important for students seeking both rigor and support. At DePaul, she’s found environments where classroom learning is enriched by meaningful, real-world conversations.​

As a student double majoring in Political Science and Latin American & Latino Studies, Kary is building an experience grounded in cultural understanding, advocacy and connection.​

To complement her studies, her on-campus job at the Latinx Cultural Center allows her to stay engaged, develop professional skills and apply what she’s learning in a hands-on setting.

During Commencement Weekend, we honored the Class of 2026 and welcomed them into our 225,000+ alumni family.

We were inspired by the reflections of our student speakers, as well as the insights shared by honorary degree recipients and commencement speakers Eugene Jarvis, Cheryl Corley and Daniel Porterfield.
