The History Department is excited to share the opportunity of The Newberry Library Undergraduate Seminar (NLUS). The topic of the 2026-27 academic year’s seminar is “Responding to the City: Imagined Pasts, Utopian Futures."

The application form and additional information are available at the History Department's website, under "Student Resources”: go.depaul.edu/nlus

The application deadline is October 15, 2026 at 11:59 p.m.

NLUS is an especially good opportunity for strong, highly motivated juniors and seniors who are prepared for and want an intensive research experience. It also can be an excellent experience for those considering graduate study in the humanities or social sciences. Many students from past seminars have commented on how NLUS challenged them intellectually and helped motivate and prepare them to pursue advanced study. They also have enjoyed working with interesting students from other Chicago-area universities.

TOMORROW! our own dr. andrew miller breaks down how three of history's most iconic figures shaped the way we think about masculinity today. vikings, witches, and knights. each one a myth, each one a mirror. and the real story behind all three is way more interesting than anything you learned in school.

here's how the night goes: andrew kicks things off with a lecture, then opens it up for q&a, and then you break into small groups to keep the conversation going over drinks. it's part class, part dialogue, part really good night out.

come solo or bring a friend. either way you're leaving with something to think about. visit letsdofunthings.org for tickets!
