Lares UIC The Latin American Recruitment and Educational Services Program Moreover, Latino graduation rates have steadily increased at UIC over the last few years.

The Latin American Recruitment and Educational Services program has been in existence since 1975. Since then, the program has grown from approximately 100 students to its present enrollment of more that 3300. LARES was established to assist UIC in the recruitment of Latinos and to provide academic support to increase their chances for success. LARES is the premier Latino academic support program in Illinois and the largest academic support unit on the UIC campus. Over the years, UIC has become the major center for Latino education in the Midwest, granting the largest number of baccalaureate degrees and enrolling the largest numbers of Latino graduate and professional students among CIC institutions. UIC Latino students are well represented in local and national scholarship programs as well as special opportunity efforts targeted for minority students. UIC Latino students continue to rank number one in the number of Hispanic Scholarship awarded in the Midwest. In order to fulfill the mission of the program, LARES has developed numerous initiatives that attempt to address the comprehensive needs of students. LARES establishes its own independent projects, cooperates with other units on initiatives and also acts as a referral point, directing students to appropriate University offices. Through this three-pronged approach, Latino undergraduates are encouraged and supported through the pursuit of their academic goals.

Happy 45th Independence Day, Belize! 🇧🇿

Small in size, but rich in culture, heritage, biodiversity, and local flavor. A Central American country with a distinctly Caribbean spirit, shaped by diverse communities, cultures, traditions, and people.

Today, we celebrate all that makes Belize distinct and proudly Belizean.

¡Viva Belize!

Jesus pulled this week’s inspiration:

“Aún no eres quien vas a llegar a ser.”

A reminder that growth takes time. You’re still becoming, learning, and evolving into the person you’re meant to be.

Wherever you are in your journey, keep going.💫

This Latino Heritage Month, we celebrate the rich history, diversity, and contributions of Latino communities.

From the traditions we carry forward to the languages we speak, the music we share, and the stories passed down through generations, our culture is woven into who we are every day.

We honor the leaders, creators, innovators, educators, and everyday changemakers across generations whose voices, work, and resilience have opened doors and strengthened the communities we call home.

May you always feel empowered to show up as your authentic self—proud of where you come from, grounded in who you are, and unapologetic about the space you take up. ✨
