Moving on up! 📈 The Princeton Review ranked our undergrad game programs 25th (up 3 slots) and our grad programs 18th (up 5 slots)! At CDM, game study is a truly interdisciplinary experience. Students from all three schools (Design, Computing, and Cinematic Arts) develop games collaboratively, gaining hands-on, real-world experience in facilities like DePaul Originals Game Studios, the Jarvis Innovation Center, and a host of game research and development labs.

“Our students are taught essential game design skills, are challenged to think creatively, and ultimately collaborate across our game design, game programming, and game art programs,” says associate professor and undergraduate game design chair Lien Tran. “It’s quite unique to have these dedicated programs work together: it really elevates the game projects.”

CDM’s School of Design has once again been named a Top Design School by GD USA Magazine !

Our program prepares students to communicate to diverse audiences through a wide range of design practices, integrating emerging media and contemporary technologies including typography, interaction design, branding, illustration, motion graphics, package design, programming, and digital fabrication. But learning extends far beyond the classroom, where students have the opportunity to collaborate with community organizations, work on funded projects with social impact, and take advantage of spaces like the Print Lab, Idea Realization Lab and Jarvis Innovation Center.

Check out our School of Design Showcase on June 11! Work from graphic design students will be on display at the Chicago Design Museum. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/2026-depaul-school-of-design-student-showcase-tickets-1989032418507?aff=ebdsoporgprofile

What is the best way to invest in neighborhood housing without displacing current residents? The Steans Family Foundation has awarded a $200,000 grant to DePaul’s SPARK Center, directed by School of Design faculty LeAnne Wagner; Institute for Housing Studies; and the Visual Informatics and Data Analytics Group, led by School of Computing professor Daniela Stan Raicu, to measure the potential social and economic effects of the foundation’s investments and partner projects in Chicago’s North Lawndale community.

During winter quarter, DePaul University School of Cinematic Arts students took part in a new Global Learning Experience course, Experimental Documentary with a Global Lens. Working in production teams formed by pairing students from DePaul University with students from Masaryk University in Brno, Czech Republic, they created short nonfiction films in an experimental documentary spirit. Together, they developed projects centered around the theme “Belonging,” including documenting small social moments that reveal larger structures—how culture, history, and values show up in everyday life. The course was led by SCA faculty Chi Jang Yin and Masaryk faculty Jan Motal.

Congratulations to CDM's Security Daemons student team, who took first place in the Midwest Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition (MWCCDC) this past weekend, competing against 11 other teams in the region for the top spot! The team now moves onto the national competition, taking place next month.

During the competition, students take charge of a mock organization, putting their cyber defense skills to the test through a series of challenges ranging from creating a work from home policy to implementing URL filtering on a network firewall - all while protecting their network from a red team of offensive security hackers.
