The Dance Center of Columbia College Chicago is honoring the legacy of its visionary founder with a new award supporting Chicago-area choreographers.

The Shirley Mordine Dance Maker Award provides unrestricted $1,000 grants and mentorship to emerging to mid-career choreographers creating new dance work.

The Dance Center’s new Shirley Mordine Dance Maker Award offers $1,000 grants and mentorship to support new work by Chicago-area choreographers. Applications are due Oct. 23.

Columbia College Chicago students and alumni played an important role in a career retrospective of Chicago fashion icon Barbara Bates at the Obama Presidential Center.
In a fashion show, designs by alums Max Marino '26, Yasmeen Wilson '25, Ciara Brophy '26, and Delvin McCray '16 honored Bates' legacy in luxury fashion locally and globally.
Student and alumni volunteers helped orchestrate the show and accompanying exhibition, showing off the breadth of Bates' 40 year career.
