CAMS’s Dr Young Richard Kim and UIC Department of History’s Dr Nicholas Doumanis were the co-chairs of the local arrangements committee of the 2026
Modern Greek Studies Association Symposium held at UIC, with over 200 participants! The culminating event was a terrific keynote lecture by the legendary Dr Michael Herzfeld, with a sumptuous reception afterward, at the National Hellenic Museum. Thanks to all of our supporters and friends, including the Foundation for Hellenic Studies Illinois, the NHM, the Consulate General of Greece in Chicago, and the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

With apologies to our followers for the lack of updates, it has been a busy fall for the CAMS Department! We partnered with the Institute for the Humanities, UIC, Moving Image Arts, Art History, and Black Studies to host a two-day event, a panel discussion of Christopher Nolan’s “Odyssey,” and a lecture by UIC alumnus, Dr. Najee Olya. CAMS faculty and students also put on their best threads to support our friends at the National Hellenic Museum, for their annual gala.
