Anjli Parrin, director of the Law School’s Global Human Rights Clinic, has been appointed to the United Nations Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances.

Parrin, an Associate Clinical Professor of Law, will serve a three-year term on the working group, which helps families determine the fate and whereabouts of missing loved ones.

“It’s a tremendous responsibility and platform upon which to support the families of those who have been disappeared and to be able to provide answers to those searching for their loved ones,” Parrin said.

Her appointment also presents new opportunities for UChicago Law students to engage with the international human rights system and see human rights advocacy in action.

Rodolfo Pavanelli Menezes, LL.M. ’27, took an unconventional path to the law. After earning a degree in physical education, he spent nearly a decade as a personal trainer before changing careers and entering law school at age 30. Today, he is an associate at one of Brazil’s leading law firms, where his practice focuses on banking and finance, financial regulation, and corporate transactions.

Yesterday, we welcomed the newest 2L staffers to our four student journals: Law Review, Legal Forum, Chicago Journal of International Law, and Business Law Review.

For students, journal work means writing original legal analysis, sharpening their editorial skills and building lasting friendships along the way. Many go on to serve on executive editorial boards as 3Ls—like Sami, the Executive Membership, Diversity, and Scholarship Editor of the Law Review.

Congratulations to Jennifer Nou, the Ruth Wyatt Rosenson Professor of Law, on her election to the American Law Institute.

ALI is one of the nation’s leading independent organizations dedicated to clarifying, modernizing, and improving the law through influential Restatements, Model Codes, and Principles of Law.

Nou’s scholarship focuses on administrative law, executive branch dynamics, regulatory policy, and constitutional separation of powers. She joins 15 other UChicago Law faculty members who are ALI members.

Nefeli Megalovasili, LL.M. ’27, has taken an unconventional route from law school back to legal practice. After earning her LL.B. from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and qualifying as a lawyer in Greece, she built a career communicating complex legal and public policy issues to broad audiences—as a content creator, podcast host, radio producer, TV presenter, and stand-up comedian.

In an annual First Monday of October tradition at , the Dean of Students Office today treated students to cupcakes decorated with the likenesses of the nine justices of the US Supreme Court to mark the start of the new term.

As the US Supreme Court kicks off its October 2026 Term on Monday, five UChicago Law alumni will be there, clerking for four different justices.

Tyler Lindley, ’21 and Matthew Rittman, ’23, are both clerking for Justice Neil Gorsuch; Nena Benavides, ’22 is clerking for Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson; Annie Kors, ’23 is clerking for Justice Elena Kagan; and Madeline Prebil, ’21 is clerking for Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

Their appointments continue a remarkable UChicago Law tradition: our graduates have served as Supreme Court clerks in all but one of the past 54 Terms.
