Jean McLaughlin Outdoor Education & Research Center at the USAO Habitat The USAO Habitat Area and Outdoor Classroom is being promoted as a managed wildlife area to improve species diversity and propagation.

We are also encouraging faculty members to utilize it for various classes taught at USAO. Currently, field techniques, herpetology and mammalogy classes are using the facilities to examine various species in their natural habitat. We hope to add ecology, art, photography and outdoor sport classes in the future. We welcome any input from faculty members or student groups of how they would like to use the property.

Summer with the JMOERC and OHCE!

To celebrate the summer, we are kicking things off with a FREE demonstration workshop for all things about food preservation. If you've been working hard on your garden, or just want a fun food related project this summer, come join us to learn about the processes for:

Pickles & Salsas
Vacuum sealing
Jams and Jellies
Freezing

Additionally, we'll have a station for those who want to bring in their pressure cooker for testing.

What's that SMELL?????

That, friends, is the smell of preparation for Drover Difference Day taking place in just one week!

Today, Dean Dr. Rachel Jones, Dr. Jason Shaw, and Biology Major/Habitat Work-study, Hunter Merrick collected two truckloads of manure to spread over a spot just outside the JMOERC. This little hillside is slated for one of our wildflower and pollinator planting activities scheduled as part of the USAO Drover Difference Day. In addition to beautification detail, student volunteers will help with trail maintenance.

Big thank you to Professor of Art, Jacqueline Knapp and Professor Emeritus Kent Lamar and his cattle for supplying the "good stuff" today!!

Attention all future environmental scientists, wildlife biologists, professional plant-nerds, soil scientists, environmental consultants, or just generally ecologically minded future scientists!!

Next Thursday, April 9th at 11:00am in Austin Hall room 206, we will have THREE environmental based scientists visiting campus to talk to USAO students (prospective students are welcome to join) about career options and planning. If you have questions, bring them with you and learn about the huge variety of career opportunities a degree in Environmental Science can provide.

Hello Pre-Veterinary Students and those considering a career in veterinary practices!

USAO Alumnus, Dr. Rikki Snugs, DVM will be visiting campus tomorrow, March 31st at 11:15am in Austin Hall 206 to present on what it takes to be a veterinarian. She will discuss her time as an undergraduate at USAO, the application process for veterinary programs, her time at OSU Veterinary, and her career as anveterinarian and owner of her practice (Pet Medical Center in Chickasha).
