NRCC Engineering Design Technology The Engineering Design Program at New River Community College graduates men and women who make an immediate difference in industry. ESS, MELD & more.

Starting entry level salaries range from $40 - $65K/year. Volvo, Mack, Lockheed Martin, Moog, Trova. New River Community College touts one of the most advanced and strongest Engineering and Design programs in the country. NRCC Engineering Design grads earn starting salaries that range from $45,000 - $60,000/year. Students have the opportunity to work in state of the art Engineering and Design labs

with over a million dollars worth of industry valued software and hardware and equipment in them. Project Based / Hands-on Learning

Currently the labs have:

color E size plotters
large format color printers
large format scanner/copier/ KIP plotter
3D Scanners
Animation Station Computer
Render Farm with 36 nodes
Super Computer
Simulator
Part 107 UNMANNED Certification and Licensing
Medium and High Powered Rocket Design
Heavy presence of hand and power tools for Capstone DIY projects.. & much much more. Students have been doing co-curricular team projects with Engineering Students for 7 years having these projects such as Reverse Engineering of Virginia Class Submarines, USN Submarine Prototypes(SSBNX), Unmanned Air systems, Unmanned Ground Vehicles, Island Resorts, International Airports and Naval Restoration Projects with North Carolina Maritime Museum. These projects are reviewed and evaluated by companies such as Lockheed Martin, Skunk Works, Northrop Grumman, New Port News, US NAVY, UNITED STATES AIR FORCE, AIAA and many many more. There are 3 to 4 jobs for every graduate. Graduates are employed all over the country at pay rate of $45,000 - $60,000 a year.

An exciting semester awaits the Advanced Engineering Design students at New River this year. We are now in our 2nd year of a "TOP SECRET" 😉 project that I have now been given permission to share.

The students are working on an Electric Version of a FORD GT40. We have been reverse engineering a car that was purchased by an incredible individual & company, Patrick Collignon & Trova Commercial Vehicles Inc. I have been tasked as the Project Manager/Designer and helping the students with the reverse engineering. This starts with the very basics using: Tape Measures, Calipers, Mics, and multiple other standard measuring practices.

Students are and will be involved "Napkin Sketching", 2D & 3D concept designs including detailed Mechanical Systems, Thermal Battery Management systems and other EV technology. We are now at a point where we will soon be "Cutting and Bending", "Slotting & Tabbing", Welding & Assembling", "Routing & Clipping" and MUCH, MUCH MORE!!!

So excited for this 2024 - 2025 School year!!!

Weather is going to be beautiful on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Floyd tomorrow. Swing on by the Chateau Morrisette Winery for a tasting, sunshine and some great music outside in the Courtyard.
