As an organization, we stand in solidarity with the families of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and all Black Americans, as they process the pain that is a result of enduring centuries of racism on individual, societal, and systemic levels. We acknowledge and recognize the trauma that that they feel as a result of this racism, and that many of our members will never be able to fully empathize with them and their experiences. The values of Kappa Alpha Theta and our members lead us to deeply condemn and oppose racism.
We are aware that our organization, being one that is traditionally privileged, has contributed in the past to racial trauma and exclusivity. It is our responsibility to work to make sure that the continuation of our organization is one that is actively anti-racist in its efforts and existence. The first step for us, is examining ourselves as a whole and how to move forward in allyship. We know that an Instagram post will never be enough, but feel it is necessary to utilize our platform and voice however possible.
We have linked a resource below that can be used to help better educate our community and facilitate change. We look forward to taking further action beyond this post and within our organization to contribute to the end of these injustices.
