Robotics meets design! To develop creative solutions for the future of robotics, DAAP students worked with Sensory Robotics to apply their design expertise to practical problems.

This is experiential learning in action, from CAD and prototyping to problem-solving and teamwork. Congratulations to DAAP Industrial Design students Owen and Elliot, who were recognized by CCPS Innovation and Leadership Awards for their work!

Last week, DAAP welcomed alumnus Omar Bailey back to campus for an inspiring engagement with our students through hands-on workshops and lectures focused on design, footwear and entrepreneurship. What stood out most was Omar’s openness and genuine connection with our students. He shared his journey, practical advice, and even a few secrets to help students see what’s possible and, most importantly, have the confidence to say: “Yes, I can make it.”

Welcome, DAAP graduate students!

We’re kicking off the semester with an incredible community of students across 11 amazing graduate programs. Our DAAP Program Directors, staff and graduate program ambassadors did an awesome job making sure our students had a great start, from Lil Goodie Shoppe soft-serve ice cream and the legendary Bearcat pizza from Adriatico’s (seriously!) to selfies, games and plenty of opportunities to connect.

Because at DAAP, one of the most important messages starts on Day 1: it’s all about community. Connect, learn across disciplines, engage with faculty and staff, and make the most of every opportunity to be part of the DAAP experience.

Alumnus Omar Bailey returns to UC, Wednesday, August 26, 2026 at 6:00 PM in the DAAP 5401 Auditorium, to share his journey from sketchbook to sneaker industry founder, featuring his new book Heart & Sole.

Join us as Omar breaks down his path from sketching shoes as a kid to designing for brands like New Balance, Adidas, and Timberland, and eventually founding FCTRY LAb. He will talk about footwear design, product development, celebrity collaborations, entrepreneurship, and how his time at DAAP helped set the foundation for his career.

DAAP alumnus Omar Bailey returns to UC to share his journey from sketchbook to sneaker industry founder featuring his new book Heart & Sole!

Join DAAP alumnus Omar Bailey as he returns to UC to share his journey from drawing sneakers as a kid to working with big footwear brands like New Balance, Adidas, and Timberland, and eventually founding his own company, FCTRY LAb. He's also just added author to his résumé with the release of his autobiography, Heart & Sole, tracing his path from sketchbook to founder.

Omar will talk about his career in footwear design, product development, celebrity collaborations, and entrepreneurship. He’ll also share how his design education at DAAP helped him build a path that goes beyond traditional design roles.

Ritmo de Verano!

Fashion, culture, and community came together for the inaugural event organized by the LULAC Ohio Educational Foundation in partnership with DAAP and hosted at Cincinnati Shakespeare Company.

The evening featured original collections by seven DAAP student designers inspired by the theme Rhythm of Summer, celebrating identity, creativity, and the richness of Latin cultures.

Following the runway, guests gathered for an evening of salsa dancing, music, and community, while proceeds from the event will support scholarships for future students.

Congratulations to Lusayra Velasquez, a second-year fashion design student who coordinated the event after sharing her own experience as a LULAC Ohio Educational Foundation scholarship recipient, alongside fellow student designers Jens Arill, Emi Lopez, Lilian Lucero, Erick Mendizabal, Ella Signorille-Ramirez, and Carlos Zantizo, and everyone who helped make the inaugural Ritmo de Verano a success.

Research can happen in a lab. It can also happen on a river.

Meet Wes Modes, artist, researcher, and Assistant Professor of Games + Animation at DAAP.

Through participatory media arts, interactive storytelling, and place-based research, Wes explores the intersections of technology, community, and memory. Their ongoing project, A Secret History of American River People, travels America's rivers aboard a handmade shanty boat, collecting oral histories that become immersive artistic experiences.

Victoria's Secret partners with DAAP Fashion Design students!

This spring, students in FASH3040: Fashion Design Special Topics – Intimates collaborated with Victoria's Secret to create capsule collections inspired by a professional design challenge.

Following the final presentations, three DAAP Fashion students were awarded $500 scholarships and received Spring 2027 co-op offers from Victoria's Secret:

• Hannah Bridge
• Kailah K. Phillip
• Haley Veinot

A real-world design brief = career opportunities. Congratulations to our students, faculty, and industry collaborators for creating another outstanding experiential learning opportunity!

Settled in Chicago

Everything about this exhibition was intentional.
From concept and collaboration to fabrication and installation. Built together by faculty and students, DAAPworks has arrived at the Design Museum of Chicago.

This episode features reflections from Professor Muhammad Rahman on the collaborative process that brought the exhibition to life.
