As we settle into the 2026-2027 academic year, we are delighted to welcome three faculty members to the Xavier University College of Nursing:

• Dr. Brenda Wiles, a returning academic leader committed to student success, patient safety, and quality care
• Dr. Elizabeth Gallagher, a primary care practitioner and educator with interests spanning health promotion, LGBTQI care, and global nursing education
• Dr. Kesha Nelson, a psychiatric-mental health leader and advocate dedicated to mental health equity and culturally responsive care

Together, they bring extensive experience in clinical practice, nursing education, scholarship, and leadership. We look forward to the many ways they will contribute to our College of Nursing community.

Supporting healthy mothers and babies begins with trusted information, compassionate care, and strong community partnerships.

Students in Dr. Enslein’s NURS 562: Art and Science of Family Nursing course recently collaborated with the Mothership Center to create educational materials focused on healthy pregnancy, pregnancy complications, and appropriate prenatal and postpartum care for mothers and babies.

Founded by Monica “Mawusi” Thomas-Cooper in September 2024, the Mothership Center is much more than a facility. It is a vibrant Cincinnati community hub where mothers and families can receive birth doula support, childbirth education, lactation consultation, and meaningful opportunities to connect with others. Mawusi brings more than 23 years of experience in birthwork and maternal health to her mission of addressing disparities in maternal and infant health.

The printing of the students’ materials was funded through a Xavier Community Engaged Scholar Grant, helping ensure these resources could be shared with families served by the center.

In this photo, Mawusi, right, shares the educational materials with members of the community—an inspiring example of nursing education making a difference beyond the classroom.

Learn life-saving CPR skills with the Xavier University College of Nursing! This April, we had another successful CPR training, where students learned essential techniques to apply in life-threatening scenarios. In preparation for their clinical coursework, students receive instruction in chest compression, resuscitation, and proper AED use. With this knowledge, our students are ready to face the critical challenges of nursing!

Xavier students help bridge the gap in public health education! In February, nursing students completing their Community Public Health and Fundamentals Practicums brought their knowledge to the 10th annual Sticks 4 Kicks event. Our students taught barcode medication administration, hand hygiene, and the Heimlich maneuver to high school students and adult-learners in phlebotomy programs. We are thrilled to support this incredible event, where 30 students from Woodward and Riverview East successfully completed their programs.

Thank you to for providing such a wonderful opportunity. Shout out to our incredible nursing students for encouraging the next generation of skilled, compassionate healthcare professionals.
