🔬 Advancing the future of cancer research.

Featured in a recent University of Cincinnati Cancer Center article, Dr. Amar Natarajan discusses emerging approaches to understanding cancer progression, treatment resistance, and new opportunities for prevention. His research includes studying how prostate cancer spreads and investigating innovative strategies that could help stop the disease before it becomes invasive.

Through collaborations spanning multiple institutions, Dr. Natarajan and his colleagues are exploring new ways to improve outcomes for patients and advance the future of cancer care.

Hana Schwierling, a pharmaceutical sciences doctoral student at the University of Cincinnati James L. Winkle College of Pharmacy, has been recognized for her innovative research on traumatic brain injury (TBI).

Hana's research focuses on how traumatic brain injuries affect serotonin neurons and how those changes may contribute to long-term neurological and mental health challenges. By studying these mechanisms, researchers hope to develop more effective treatments for patients living with the effects of TBI.

Her work was recognized as a Top 20 Poster at the 2026 Annual Symposium of the National Neurotrauma Society, and she also received a travel award to present her research at a national pharmacology conference.

🏆 Congratulations to Gargi Digholkar on an incredible achievement!

Gargi, a first-year Ph.D. student in Dr. Hassani's lab, recently attended the 3rd Mechanisms and Barriers in Nanomedicine Conference, where she earned First Prize for Poster Presentation.

Her award-winning research, titled "Interleukin-4-Loaded Lipid Nanoparticles Reprogram Adipose Tissue Immunity and Promote Adipocyte Browning for the Treatment of Obesity," explores innovative nanoparticle-based approaches to treating obesity and autoimmune diseases through immune system modulation.

🎉 One week ago, we celebrated 10 years of the MS in Pharmacy Leadership (PHLD) program at the University of Cincinnati!

The anniversary event was an opportunity to recognize the many people who have helped make the program a success, including faculty, staff, advisory board members, alumni, students and supporters past and present.

A special thank you to ASHP CEO Sam Calabrese for his inspiring keynote address, "Leadership – More Than a Title."

Over the past decade, the PHLD community has built a strong foundation centered on student success, innovation and leadership. We are grateful for everyone who has contributed to the program's journey and look forward to what the next 10 years will bring!

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Dr. J. Richard “Dick” Wuest, a beloved alumnus, long‑time faculty member, mentor, and cherished friend of the James L. Winkle College of Pharmacy.

Dr. Wuest (Pharm ’58, ’68, ’71) leaves behind a legacy that shaped the practice of pharmacy across the nation. His pioneering work in developing the brightly colored auxiliary warning labels found on prescription bottles transformed patient safety and remains a standard across the United States today.

Over his more than three decades on faculty, Dr. Wuest educated and mentored over 2,600 pharmacy students, supported the development of national licensure exams, authored drug‑information resources, and helped define what modern pharmacy practice looks like.

His generosity lives on through the J. Richard Wuest Family Pharmacy Practice Skills Center and the Wuest Pharmacy Practice Fund, both of which continue to impact every student who comes through our college.

Known for his humor, dedication, storytelling, and unwavering loyalty to UC, Dr. Wuest embodied what it means to serve others. He will be profoundly missed, but his impact will continue for generations.

Our deepest condolences go to the Wuest family, his former students, colleagues, and the many lives he touched.

Ruby Hoskins and Zach Devine, two P4 students, spent two weeks in Guatemala with The Christ Hospital/UC Family Medicine for their APPE, providing care at Clinica Miller, Clinica Chichimuch, and Clinica Chutiestancia. Together, they helped care for over 250 patients while gaining meaningful hands-on experience and serving local communities. In between clinic days, they also had the chance to explore the beauty of Guatemala.

A special thank-you to faculty, staff, and Walgreens for their generous donations that helped support this outreach. 💙

Congratulations to Lucas Wittenkeller on being selected for the 2026-2027 AACP Aspiring Academics Program!

Lucas is a fourth-year Ph.D. candidate under the mentorship of Dr. Kruyer and was chosen as one of only 29 students nationwide for this prestigious program.

A first-generation college graduate, Lucas earned his bachelor's degree in neuroscience and psychology from North Central College. His research focuses on understanding novel mechanisms of neuropsychiatric illness, and he has already made a meaningful impact through his work at UC.

We are excited to see Lucas continue to grow as a scholar, mentor, and future academic leader through this opportunity.
