Keynote speaker Rogers M. Smith will present “The Declaration of Independence and American Dreams,” exploring the historical and contemporary significance of dissent as a catalyst for change.

Join UC Klekamp Law for the 2026 Harold C. Schott Lecture, “Commitment, Compliance, and International Law’s Current Crisis,” presented by Professor Jacob Katz Cogan.

Professor Cogan will examine the challenges facing international law and consider whether the current crisis stems from widespread noncompliance or a deeper lack of commitment to the international legal system.

Jones Center for Race, Gender, and Social Justice, the Hamilton County Public Defender’s Office and JustChoice for a screening of Baby Doe, followed by a panel discussion with the film’s director and community advocates. This event is possible through generous sponsorship from Friedman, Gilbert + Gerhardstein; Cara Stewart, Attorney at Law; and TK Law.

Directed by Jessica Earnshaw and executive produced by Sarah Paulson, Baby Doe examines the case of Gail Ritchey, who was convicted decades after the death of her newborn infant. The documentary explores denied pregnancy, the criminal legal system and the complex questions surrounding justice, reproductive health and support.

UC Klekamp Law Professors Ryan Thoreson and Bert B. Lockwood recently appeared on the Human Rights: Conversations Across Generations podcast for an important discussion about protecting LGBTQIA+ rights and human dignity.

In the episode, Professor Thoreson draws on his experience as a scholar and former senior researcher in the LGBT Rights Program at Human Rights Watch to examine the evolving legal landscape surrounding conversion therapy, marriage equality, anti-trans legislation and the criminalization of same-sex relationships around the world.

Professors Thoreson and Lockwood also discuss their work with Human Rights Quarterly and the journal’s enduring role in advancing global human rights.

UC Klekamp Law is welcoming a new generation of students—and one of its largest incoming classes in decades.

This fall, our JD, LLM and MLS programs bring together students from across the country and around the world, each bringing different experiences, perspectives and paths to legal education.

More students are choosing UC Klekamp Law, with JD applications reaching their highest level in a decade. Our entering JD class includes 170 students representing 22 states and 68 colleges and universities, while our newest LLM cohort brings 13 participants from eight countries and four continents.

Our MLS program also welcomed 18 new students from a wide range of professional fields. In addition, 14 students are enrolled in our four new certificate programs: Business Compliance, IT and Cyber Law, Healthcare Administration Regulation, and Sports Law.

Together, these students reflect the growing reach of UC Klekamp Law and the many different ways they are choosing to take their next step here.
