New law as of February 1st, 2025:
All new permit holders under the age of 21 must complete a minimum of 50 hours of practice driving before they can be issued a probationary driver license. 10 of the hours must be completed during hours of darkness. There is a link in the comments of the form that needs to be signed before getting your license.

Starting February 1, 2025, the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (NJMVC) will begin implementing a law requiring permit holders under the age of 21 to complete a minimum of 50 hours of practice driving, 10 of which must be completed during hours of darkness, before they can be issued a probationary driver license. This new requirement will be in place for permitted drivers who are under the age of 21 and issued either a special learner’s permit or examination permit on or after February 1, 2025. Only the submission of a signed Certification of Supervised Driving (NJMVC Form BA-CSD) will meet the supervised practice hours requirement.

Before scheduling your road test, make sure to:

1. Check the permit expiration date. If the permit is or will expire before the road test date, schedule an appointment to renew the permit here. https://telegov.njportal.com/njmvc/AppointmentWizard/15
2. Make sure you are entering the correct validation number. This five-digit number is handwritten on the permit.
3. Make sure the knowledge test scores are valid. Knowledge test scores are valid for two years from the date the test was passed.

Peak mating season for deer in New Jersey runs from late October to mid-December, where they are more likely to enter the roadways.

Deer activity is more likely to occur during early morning hours and around sunset when visibility may be limited, and more motorists are on their commutes. This increases the risk of drivers stopping suddenly or being involved in collisions.

🦌 ❤️ These tips can help motorists stay safe during deer mating season:

👉If you see a deer, slow down and pay attention to possible sudden movement. If the deer is in the road and doesn’t move, don’t go around it. Wait for the deer to pass and the road is clear.
👉Pay attention to “Deer Crossing” signs. Slow down when traveling through areas known to have a high concentration of deer so you will have ample time to stop if necessary.
👉If you are traveling after dark, use high beams when there is no oncoming traffic or vehicles ahead. High beams will be reflected by the eyes of deer on or near roads.
👉If you see one deer crossing, be on guard: others may be in the area. Deer typically move in family groups at this time of year and cross roads single-file.
👉Don’t tailgate. Remember: the driver in front of you might have to stop suddenly to avoid hitting a deer.
👉Always wear a seatbelt, as required by law. Drive at a safe and sensible speed, accounting for weather, available lighting, traffic, curves and other road conditions.
👉If a collision appears inevitable, do not swerve to avoid impact. The deer may counter-maneuver suddenly. Brake appropriately but stay in your lane. Collisions are more likely to become fatal when a driver swerves to avoid a deer and instead collides with oncoming traffic or a fixed structure along the road.
👉Do not use handheld devices while driving.
👉Report any deer-vehicle collision to a local law enforcement agency immediately.
