KGI President Mohamed Abousalem joined Congresswoman Judy Chu, Claremont Mayor Jennifer Stark, members of Claremont City Council, and city officials last week as Chu presented an $850,000 check in federal funding to support the development of the Vortox property into Claremont South Village.

As owners of the Vortox property, KGI is proud to be a part of the development of the Claremont South Village, which will bring housing, retail, and restaurants near campus that students, faculty, staff, and the community can enjoy. We are proud to be engaged with the City of Claremont on this project that will be a wonderful addition to the city.

For Angela Chong, returning to school after decades away was a goal that seemed out of reach. While balancing family responsibilities and a full-time job with the San Francisco Department of Public Health, Chong didn't think earning a master’s degree was possible until she discovered KGI's fully online Master of Health Administration (MHA) program.

“I feel that KGI gave me a second chance to pursue a dream that I had put on hold for many years,” said Chong, who graduated from KGI in May. “As someone over 50 years old, I never thought I would have the opportunity to return to school and earn a master's degree. With a family to support and a daughter attending college, I always prioritized my family's needs before my own educational goals.”

In our Scholarship Spotlight series, Chong reflects on how the generosity of Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, founder and executive chairperson of Biocon Limited, who received an honorary degree from KGI at the 2026 commencement ceremony, helped make her educational goal attainable.
