5C Intercollegiate Dept. of Africana Studies Established in 1969, the Intercollegiate Department of Africana Studies offers a rich academic program to all students at The Claremont Colleges.

The mission of the Intercollegiate Department of Africana Studies (IDAS) is to examine, through various academic disciplines, the experiences of people of African heritage worldwide. 🌍 WAR-MAKING AS WORLDMAKING
Join us for a powerful talk with Samar Al-Bulushi, Associate Professor of Anthropology at UC Irvine.

This lecture examines how militarism, imperialism, and policing shape everyday life in Kenya in the wake of the U.S.-led War on Terror. Drawing on ethnographic research in Nairobi and Mombasa, Al-Bulushi explores how Kenyan Muslim activists navigate loss, surveillance, and state violenceβ€”and what it means to remake a world shaped by imperial warfare.
