The literature major at CMC enables students to understand and appreciate our literary heritage and allows them to pursue their individual literary interests. The major requires a structured series of courses on the principal writers of English, American, and world literature and permits a wide range of electives, spanning across women's and gender studies, creative writing, film studies and other

related fields. Because it emphasizes close reading, careful analysis, and extensive experience in writing, the literature major has been found useful by students entering a variety of careers: law, media, journalism, government, business, as well as teaching.
