The concert repertoire includes Bluegrass music, traditional spirituals, contemporary sacred music, hymns, madrigals, show tunes, popular music, and authentic folk music from Scotland, Haiti, and Appalachia.
The Concert Choir recently completed their 2024 Spring Tour which included performances at the Flight 93 National Memorial, Trinity Church in Washington, PA, Trinity Presbyterian Church in Uniontown, PA, as well as public school assemblies at Keystone High School, Knox, PA, Burrell High School, New Kensington, PA, and Jefferson Morgan High School, Jefferson, PA.
Over the past 9 years the PennWest Clarion University Concert Choir has performed free community concerts and high school assemblies in 41 of Pennsylvania’s 67 counties. In the summer of 2016, the ensemble achieved a significant milestone in Clarion’s choral program history by taking third place in the Youth Choir Competition at the International Choral Competition (Eisteddifod) in Llangollen, Wales. While in the United Kingdom they also performed community concerts in London, England, Stratford-upon-Avon, England, Denbigh, Wales, Killarney, Ireland, and Dublin, Ireland.
This past summer the Concert Choir performed at St. John’s Church, Waterloo, London. They also were accepted by audition to compete in the professional choir competition at the International Choral Competition at Llangollen, Wales and took fifth place of twelve competing international choirs. With more than 100 choirs submitting audition recordings, the competition for an invitation was the most rigorous in the 76-year history of the Eisteddfod.
Each fall the Concert Choir hosts a Benefit Dinner that raises funds for those in need in the Clarion and Venango County communities
