Dr. Md Al Haider was recently named a recipient of the Socrates Award for Excellence in Teaching! Here is a little bit more about him and his accomplishments.
Dr. Md. Ali Haider is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Engineering Technology at Austin Peay State University, specializing in industrial automation, circuit design, and Internet of Things. His teaching emphasizes practical, hands-on learning that prepares students to apply engineering concepts to real-world challenges and develop the technical skills needed for successful careers in industry. A Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and a member of the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE), Dr. Haider is actively engaged in teaching, research, curriculum development, and professional service. He is particularly committed to creating meaningful learning experiences that encourage students to think critically, work collaboratively, and approach engineering problems with confidence. Through his work at APSU, he strives to prepare students not only with technical knowledge but also with the ability to adapt, innovate, and contribute effectively in their professional fields.
“What I value most about teaching at APSU is the opportunity to work closely with students and witness their growth throughout their academic journey. The university’s supportive, student-focused environment allows me to build meaningful relationships with students while helping them develop both professionally and personally. I especially enjoy working with students in our hands-on engineering technology laboratories, where they can move beyond theory and apply what they learn to real-world problems. Seeing a student go from uncertainty to confidently designing, building, testing, and troubleshooting a project is incredibly rewarding. Those moments when students recognize that they can solve challenging problems and create something of their own are among the most fulfilling parts of teaching at APSU.”
