Today's Friday Feature highlights Surabhi Sahay, an associate professor in the Department of Communication, who has earned a Fulbright Scholar Award to examine how cesarean section decisions are made in rural and semi-urban communities in India. 💜

Sahay identified gaps in understanding and communication due to a trend in the overuse of C-sections without a medical need, along with a rise in infections and a lack of understanding of care. She will use the funding to travel to the Indian states of Bihar and Gujarat over three years to conduct her research, which she will use to create more intentional communication strategies for maternal health care in India.

“Women deserve access to comprehensive information and care, and I am honored for the opportunity to support and advance maternal health in India as a Fulbright Scholar,” said Sahay. “I look forward to working with women, families and stakeholders to understand and improve the many factors that shape access to information – and ultimately empower women to have a voice in their own healthcare.”

As we gear up for Homecoming this weekend, we're celebrating two of our outstanding students that have worked hard to bring you this year's 70th Tigerama! 🐅🎆💫

Catherine Taylor, a senior nursing major who is minoring in psychology, was chosen as director of the event this year. Her assistant director, Jack Price, is a junior political science major. Both Taylor and Price have served as tour guides members of Clemson Undergraduate Student Government, and they have also worked on The Hills Retreat in addition to several other campus organizations.

"I've always loved Clemson, but Tigerama has stirred a deep love of tradition and bringing the Clemson family together in a way I had not experienced before," Taylor told us. "I truly cannot wait to gather alongside people who love this place as much as I do, bonded over an unexplainable something in these hills!"

Join us in congratulating Catherine and Jack on their hard work to showcase the Clemson Experience! 🧡🐾💜

You can learn more about this year's theme, Flight 1889, and purchase your tickets at clemsontigerama.org. ✈️

Our first Faculty Feature for this year is Betty Baldwin, an associate professor in the Clemson Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management Department! If you ever need her, you can probably find her in the Clemson University Forest. 🌳💚🌲

Betty works hard to engage her students and help them learn outside of the classroom, and her greatest pride as an educator comes from watching her students get invested in the subject matter. Whether she's meeting doctoral students for weekly conversations over coffee or accompanying her undergraduate students on a tour of Fort Hill, her passion for what and who she teaches is evident.

Swipe to learn more about her! ⭐

As we close out Military Appreciation Week here at Clemson, we want to honor our students who have served, are currently serving or preparing to serve in the military. 💚 We are grateful for you.

This week, we had the opportunity hear from one of our veteran students and several of our ROTC students about what drew them to serve in the military and how some of the skills they’ve learned support the work they want to do after graduation.

Swipe through to learn more about what motivates them. 🧡

This week, our Friday Feature recognizes two CBSHS faculty members who are taking the classroom into the real world. 🐅🌎

Amira Jadoon, associate professor in the Clemson University Department of Political Science and MinJae Woo, assistant professor of data science in the Clemson University Department of Public Health Sciences, have received a combined $255,000 in funding to create new experiential learning opportunities for Clemson students.

Through innovative programs in health-finance analytics and national security, students will gain hands-on experience, connect with industry professionals and develop skills to prepare them for their future careers.

Woo and Jadoon have respectively used the funding to develop a datathon with an accompanying capstone course and the Clemson National Security Scholars program.

Today, our Friday Feature highlights mental wellness support that meets students where they are. 🧡📱

Kaileigh Byrne, an associate professor of psychology, developed the MyAtlasU app to bring evidence-based strategies for stress management, resilience and well-being directly to college students.

With support from student researchers and Clemson’s research translation programs, Byrne turned an academic research project into an accessible resource that complements existing university mental health services.

In particular, Byrne worked with Clemson's Simulating Translation of Research via Intentional Development and Ecosystem (STRIDE) Accelerating Research Translation (ART) Academy to find a path to commercialization. Clemson is one of 18 universities to receive an ART grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) nationwide. Byrne and her team have also been selected for the national NSF Innovation Corps (I-Corps) Teams training program, and MyAtlasU was selected as a South Carolina Research Authority (SCRA) member company.

MyAtlasU is now available in app stores for users with .edu email addresses. Read more about Byrne’s work here: https://bit.ly/4yghiMq

This week’s highlights how Clemson Rural Health is expanding diabetes care in rural South Carolina! 🌴🌙❤️‍🩹

With $600,000 in funding from the BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Foundation, ManageTogether CONNECTED will support adults in Orangeburg, Bamberg, Barnwell and Calhoun counties through personalized care, nutrition support, glucose monitoring and diabetes education.

The program builds on the original ManageTogether initiative, where 70% of its 493 participants experienced a clinically significant decrease in A1c levels after its first three years. CONNECTED aims to reach 200 patients over the next three years, helping bridge gaps in care and strengthen community health. 🫂

A new Clemson University research project launches today with support from the National Science Foundation (NSF). The team will be working to develop safeguards against AI-generated content that is alarmingly easy to create and spread, yet can be detrimental to young people's mental health.

The interdisciplinary team includes: Linke Guo, Long Cheng, Heather Hensman Kettrey and Matthew Costello, all of Clemson. Also collaborating is Ming Li from the The University of Texas at Arlington.
