The Levin College of Public Affairs and Education (Levin) at Cleveland State University offers interdisciplinary undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral degrees by offering tools to address complex urban, human, and societal challenges. Levin, encompasses areas of Communication, Counseling, Administration, Supervision and Adult Learning, Criminology and Sociology, Curriculum and Foundations, Teacher Education, and Urban Affairs - to offer an innovate approach to learning within an urban research university. A powerful combination of instruction and real-world experiences ensures that our students graduate fully prepared to contribute to the civic, economic, and educational development of our region and our world. Levin students are afforded opportunities for scholarship, research, mentorship, experiences in the field, and service to their community. The program offers wider and deeper collaborations in education (PK-12, Adult Education, and Educational Leadership), economic development, city planning, public safety- bringing diverse disciplinary tools to bear on complex urban, human, and societal challenges through expanded research and new ways to use communication in policy development. Levin students will be trained to address complex societal challenges that are inextricably linked but cannot be addressed in isolation. Our graduates will be deployed to address inequities (in education, health, and mental health), public safety, technological advance, climate change, as well as innovations in how to educate, train, and re-train the workforce in a dynamic economy. Levin researchers routinely put their knowledge into action, engaging with decision makers at the international, national, state, and local levels. Our research centers and programs have served as the focal point of applied research, technical assistance, and public service in Ohio and beyond.

Join Levin College and the Center for Educational Leadership at CSU for the Fall 2026 Roslyn Z. Wolf Lecture in Urban Education featuring Dr. Jo Boaler, Nomellini and Olivier Professor of Education at Stanford University.

In Teaching Mindset Mathematics: A Research-Backed Approach for Raising Mathematics Achievement, Dr. Boaler will discuss research-backed approaches to mathematics teaching, including conceptual learning, mindset mathematics, and strategies that support student achievement.

Levin College Associate Professor Katie Clonan-Roy, Ph.D., is a co-editor of Exploring Educational and Developmental Experiences of Girls of Color: Girlhood Reimagined, along with Charlotte E. Jacobs, Ph.D., and Levin College Urban Education Ph.D. alum Chantille Jackson, Ph.D.

This collaborative work shines a light on the diverse strengths that adolescent girls of Color exercise to navigate and better our world.

The open-access edition will be available beginning October 28, with the print edition following November 18.

How should schools respond to artificial intelligence? Ohio students are helping shape the conversation.

Through the AI in Schools project, high school students are examining how their peers experience and think about AI in schools, focusing on academic integrity, teacher guidance, privacy, equity, and future readiness.

With support from Dr. Adam Voight, director of Levin College’s Center for Urban Education, and other CSU researchers, students are gathering data, analyzing findings, and developing evidence-based recommendations to help school and district leaders create practical, student-centered AI policies.

Congratulations to Quinci Teer, Ph.D., a 2025 graduate of the Levin College of Public Affairs and Education, who has been named the ICUE Educator of the Year for 2026 by the International Conference on Urban Education.

Dr. Teer earned her Ph.D. in Urban Education from Levin’s School of Education and Counseling. The award recognizes leadership, innovation, service, and impact in advancing educational excellence in urban schools and communities.

In her acceptance remarks, Dr. Teer said, “Teaching is not just a profession. It is my calling.” She also reflected on the students, family members, colleagues, and educators who have shaped and supported her work.
