Our division had a HUGE win last night at Hey Joe's! With the help from our friends in the Division of Languages and Literature (and some other supporters along the way), we were able to take home the department trivia win this year for our Masters of Liberal Studies program.

Thank you to Hey Joe's for being a continuous supporter of DSU! We will see you again next spring!

The students in Dr. Ossorio's Criminal Forensics class recently completed part of their final project, check out the description below from Dr. Ossorio!

Forensic Case Study: Murder at Eagle Nest Harbor

Designed to engage students in forensic science by investigating a fictional murder in a peaceful houseboat community. Students in this activity assume the role of forensic technicians, tasked with analyzing various types of evidence such as hair, fiber, fingerprints, blood, and handwriting. The objective is to apply these analyses to help identify the perpetrator of the crime.

Students in Chuck Westmoreland's HIS 202 class (The U.S. since 1877) finished up the semester with a discussion of the recent campus protests and their place within the larger history of student activism going back to the 1960s. Fittingly, we talked about the 1969 Black Student Organization sit-in right here on campus as a way to think about differences and similarities between student activism across the generations. Good luck to everyone on their finals!

We are extremely thankful to have Mike Carr teaching courses in civil rights law, criminal law, and judicial process over the past five years. He's been a wonderful, engaging teacher and a tremendous asset to our students, particularly those in the Criminal Justice and Criminology program. Thanks for all you've given to our students and best wishes in your personal and professional endeavors. You'll always have a home at Delta State!

Finishing the year strong with our last lecture in week 14 teaching โ€œRace, Civil Rights, and the Supreme Courtโ€. For the past 5 years I have taught this class on Monday nights at Delta State University along with two other pre-law classes on Criminal Law and The Judicial Process. Time now to pass the torch to another adjunct to teach our next generation of leaders (and hopefully some future lawyers) as to how the Constitution impacts our lives every day.

Way to go Mathilde!

๐ŸŽ“Mathilde ๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ฐ will receive her Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and Criminology with a concentration in Social Justice at Delta State University's Spring 2024 Commencement on Friday, May 10. Hailing from Kolding, Denmark, Mathilde shared some reflections about her time at Delta State.

๐Ÿ’š What was your major (or field of study), and why did you choose it?
I am graduating with a bachelor's in 'Social Justice and Criminology.' I chose this degree because I have always been interested in the study of crime through a behavioral and social science-based approach.

๐ŸคWhat song will always remind you of this time in your life?
'Vienna' by Billy Joel. The song reminds me to slow down and not worry or rush, just enjoy the moment.

๐Ÿ’š What are your plans now that youโ€™ve graduated?
My plan after graduation is to go home and work full-time until next summer, where I will start my master's degree in 'Investigative Journalism.'

๐ŸŽ‰Congratulations, Mathilde!
