We at Delta State were honored to host the visitation for the late Dr. Kent Wyatt at the building named for him.

Claire Cole had the terrific idea of displaying Dr. Wyatt’s pocket calendars, which let us know his day-to-day activities during his long and successful tenure as DSU’s president.

Check out this entry from his first year as the man in charge…it must have been a good Sunday, March 23, 1975.

If you got questions about the history of the cafeteria, I got answers!

[outfit is because after Exchange Club I was headed to the visitation for longtime DSU staffer Joyce Kennedy].

We enjoyed a little Delta State history at today’s Exchange Club meeting! 💚

Exchange Club member and Delta State University President Dr. Dan Ennis shared the fascinating history of the Young-Mauldin Cafeteria, where our club now holds its weekly meetings.

Dr. Ennis took us back to the early days of Delta Teachers College, when the area was originally planned for—and later used as—a baseball field, before the cafeteria was built during President James Ewing’s tenure and opened in April 1966. He also shared historic photographs, original blueprints, and details about the building’s unique Space Age-inspired “Googie” architecture.

Thank you, Dr. Ennis, for giving us a closer look at the history behind our new Exchange Club home!

Hey all! Given all the attention to the Odyssey film, I’m going to dust off my old lecture notes and offer a Lunch & Learn series. We’ll read The Odyssey together over six weeks, and you can enjoy our excellent cafeteria food as well. Come a little before noon, get your plate, and join us.
