It all begin in 1987 at Binghamton University....
On December 1, 1987 at Binghamton University, Founding Mothers Cynthia Santiago-Guzman, A

driana Zamora-Tirado, Carmen Ibeth Garcia-Quinones and Carol Elizabeth Torres created an organization that would not only serve as a voice for women in an academic setting, but would also provide sincere sisterhood and unconditional support while actively promoting academic achievement, service to the community, and cultural enrichment. Today since 1987, Sigma Lambda Upsilon/Señoritas Latinas Unidas Sorority, Inc. has membership at over 40 universities with recognized chapters at over 30 institutions. We have undergraduate chapters at 7 of the 8 Ivy League Colleges/Universities across the United States of America. We also have established 13 Graduate/Professional chapters. We continue the legacy of our Founders--our goals and ideals continue to be exemplified by our Hermanas: Sisterhood, Leadership, Community Service, Cultural Awareness and Academic Excellence. On April 12th, 2008, The Ambitious & Innovative Alpha Iota Chapter was founded at Hamilton College. The founding line of the Alpha Iota chapter is Stephanie Tafur, Hannah Roth, and Jatnna Amador. These three dedicated young women believed that they needed to bring an organization in hopes of bridging the gap between the campus and its diverse community through education and philanthropy. After doing their research they found what they were looking for in Sigma Lambda Upsilon/Señoritas Latinas Unidas Sorority, Inc. They felt strongly connected with the mission, Goals, and Ideals that Hermanas truly embodied. They felt that ΣΛΥ could equip them with the tools to provide a voice for the unheard and under-represented at Hamilton College and felt empowered to bring about proactive change. In Spring 2009, Beta Line was born--Laura Lee Smith and Denise Ghartey embarked on an unforgettable journey. Alpha Iota is continuing to make an impact on their campus-full force-anticipating to share with the world what the Alpha Iota Chapter has to offer!

On behalf of Sigma Lambda Upsilon/Señoritas Latinas Unidas Sorority, Inc., The Brothers Organization, and the Days-Massolo Center, we would like to sincerely thank every individual that participated on this project.
------------------------------------------------------
The goal of this project is to provide an opportunity for students to record sincere statements of advice, concern and hope for their future child or children in an effort to encourage people to reflect on the role in society. It is our hope that these sincere notions of advice may lead to intellectual discussions regarding social change; ultimately changing the social atmosphere at Hamilton College.
