The Colby Community College PTA program is back up and running with an entirely new faculty and curriculum!

Please wish our CCC PTA students good luck on taking and passing their National Board Exam this week.
In case you were not aware, even if our students graduate from the CCC PTA program, they still have to pass a 5 hour national exam to become certified, practicing physical therapist assistants. They have all been studying hard since graduation in order to pass this critical last step of their education!

A big thank you to our friends at Parkinson's Families of NW KS for inviting the CCC PTA class to the annual fall conference. Our students sat amongst the greater northwest Kansas community on Saturday, listening to a motivational speaker, neurologist and movement disorder specialist, and a panel of speakers on both Parkinson's Disease and essential tremors. We were honored to host the conference here on the Colby Community College campus this year!

Therapeutic Exercise anyone?
This week in Functional Musculoskeletal Anatomy lab our CCC PTA students learn the basic principles of a very important physical therapy treatment known as therapeutic exercise. Can anyone guess what muscles are being targeted in this video?

Functional mobility week wrapped up with learning how to transfer patients from various surfaces, using various methods. Our students learned to use slide boards, pivot discs, and good old physics to make transferring patients of all mobility levels with ease and comfort.

09/08/2026

It's functional mobility week at the CCC PTA Program! Our students learn how to safely move patients in bed. This includes patients who might have special surgical precautions, injuries to the spine, and paralysis!

This week's lesson: Human beings are asymmetrical and almost no one has perfect posture. After a rigorous round of testing, the CCC PTA students enjoy learning to assess each other's posture and instruct on good body mechanics.

08/27/2026

Did you know that you can learn to fall properly? Ask your local physical therapy clinician how to reduce likelihood of serious injury when falling!

08/24/2026

Student PTAs in action! One of our first labs in the CCC PTA program is how to properly guard a patient on various surfaces and community obstacles. Students learn to put on and hold a gait belt, how to position themselves relative to the patient, and how to start providing instructions on the safest way to maneuver curbs, stairs, and uneven surfaces with an assistive device.

Welcome CCC PTA Class of 2027! Our students went through orientation last Friday and started classes with the rest of the CCC students this week. Best wishes for a successful year ahead!
