Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated Forms New Graduate Chapter in Northwest Prince George’s County, Maryland

On Sunday, December 8, 2019, at The Hotel at the University of Maryland College Park, the Alpha Alpha Lambda Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated was chartered as the fourth chapter to serve Prince George’s County, Maryland. Over the past year, Alpha Alpha Lambda Omega served under the name Prince George’s County Progressive Pearls and provided service throughout the northwest corridor of Prince George’s County, Maryland. Service projects for 2019 include:

A donation of over 680 pairs of shoes to the Soles4Souls Foundation in observance of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service

A social media campaign promoting healthy, active living for Heart Health month

The participation in an NBC4 live morning show kick-off of the 2019 National Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) week at Howard University

Health 4 the Holidays morning broadcast in Prince George’s County

In addition, they extended the impact of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated by:

Pledging over $1000.00 to the Educational Advancement Foundation in support of Historically Black Colleges and Universities

Donating $500.00 to the Pauperism Project; a local social service non-profit organization

Donating seasonal wraps and uniforms to local elementary schools within their service area Walking in solidarity for Breast Cancer Awareness in partnership with the Sistagurl Network, Inc. and the Bladensburg Community Center

Producing over 80 pillowcase dresses for the Hope for Haiti Pillowcase Project

Participating in the 7th Annual 5K Run/2K Walk in support of Historically Black Colleges and Universities

Leveraging personal and professional networks to promote minority-owned businesses

Collecting and donating over 150 pairs of eyeglasses to Lions Club International

Initiating a partnership with ManorCare Health Services - Hyattsville for Care for the Caregivers

Alpha Alpha Lambda Omega will continue to provide community service that promotes and supports the college admissions process, historically black colleges and universities, women’s healthcare and wellness, fiscal health, the arts, and global assistance programs in northwestern Prince George’s county.
