Global STEWARDS Winter AMP Trip to Nepal – January 2025 🇳🇵
What an unforgettable journey! As part of the UMD Global STEWARDS program, our team: Dr. Suhana, Dr. Leena, Ujjwol, Opeyemi, Tiberias, Samyam, and Rafiyan embarked on a transformative 10-day experience across Nepal. From witnessing the majestic Himalayas to learning about innovative sustainable farming practices, our days were filled with deep cultural immersion, environmental education, and community engagement.
We visited historic UNESCO World Heritage Sites like the Bhaktapur Durbar Square, Boudhanath, and Swayambhunath Stupas, and hiked to the breathtaking Bishnu Dwar waterfall at Shivapuri. Our hearts were touched by the warm hospitality at Sanskriti Farm, where we participated in tree planting and village tours and learned firsthand about sustainable agriculture, biochar use, biogas energy, and water harvesting.
We also connected with amazing organizations like Wildlife Conservation Nepal, Kathmandu University, and Dhulikhel Hospital, gaining insight into local efforts to conserve the environment, empower women, improve rural health, and ensure water safety. And yes, there was plenty of authentic Nepali food, cultural music, dancing, and laughter along the way!
We left Nepal with full hearts, inspired minds, and lasting memories. Grateful to have experienced this meaningful journey and eager to apply what we've learned toward a more sustainable and resilient future. 🌱🌏
