Members of our College Park Scholars 13 programs are known to make an impact on campus 🏫 life but did you know they could also have a lasting impact on the LIFE 🌿 on campus?

Just a short walk from the Cambridge Community stands the Wooded Hillock, a wooded area that ETE Scholars secured funding for to build a trail through several years ago. In the late 1990s, the area was looked at for development, but students and faculty rallied for its preservation.

Recently, ETE made the short trip and spend hours sitting still, taking note of the small wonders in nature. They even used tools like Merlin, iNaturalist, and good, old-fashioned keys to get to know the non-human residents of campus.

If need to take a break and reconnect with nature, you can thank ETE Scholars as you stroll through the lovely Wooded Hillock!

Scholars explore far away but also enjoy exploring locations in our backyard like the City of College Park.

Recently, CESG at UMD had a fun time at College Park Day! It's the city's biggest event of the year with lots of activities, food, local artisans and entertainment. They even got to spend time with TeddyTheTerp, a true furry friend 🐾 of Scholars.

I know what you did last summer… okay, okay! Not the horror version, although it is scary to consider how life might be without reading for fun!

Media, Self and Society alum Emmanuel Dean '28, a literacy fellow with New York City-based nonprofit Barbershop Books, spent his summer inspiring young boys to discover the joy of reading through Reading So Lit Summer, a free, two-week virtual program.

We love connecting with our friends in University Honors, especially when we get to share about the nationally ranked living learning programs here at University of Maryland!

Arianna (left), a Global Public Health Scholars Scholar, and Reema, Integrated Life Sciences UMD student, sat on a panel this weekend in Baltimore for the CollegeBound Foundation. They were joined by peers from Morgan State University and Loyola University Maryland.

Arianna and Reema did a phenomenal job sharing about their experiences at the University of Maryland and the high school students in attendance were thrilled to connect with them (most of them are planning to apply to UMD!).

If you are excited to join us in College Park next fall, complete your application by Nov. 1 Early Action Deadline!
