We’ve returned from an invigorating week at the Herrick Conferences at Purdue University, where we presented our latest research on heat exchangers, thermal energy storage, low-GWP heat pumps, elastocaloric cooling and more.

It was inspiring to connect with others who share our commitment to developing energy-efficient and eco-friendly solutions. A highlight was reconnecting with CEEE alumni, learning about their work and hearing how they continue to make an impact across the field.

🎉Congratulations to Jan Muehlbauer, a senior faculty specialist with CEEE, on receiving the 2026 Faculty Service Award from the A. James Clark School of Engineering at the University of Maryland. 🏆

Muehlbauer manages the Daikin Energy Innovation Laboratory, a 3,600-square-foot state-of-the-art facility, where CEEE researchers are developing efficient, sustainable heating and cooling solutions. He oversaw the lab’s creation in 2019 and continues to manage updates, focusing on state-of-the-art upgrades and ensuring personnel safety.

Thank you, Jan, for all your contributions to CEEE and Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Maryland over the past 20 years.

🏆We are thrilled to announce that a CEEE team led by Research Professor Yunho Hwang received third place in the Vicinity Energy–Maryland Energy Innovation Accelerator Ideation Program. The pitch competition invited innovators to propose ways to improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions in centralized district energy systems.
